4th of July Weekend Movie Marathon

Well, I suppose it wasn’t much of a marathon given that I had a couple extra days off, but nonetheless, I assume it was more movies than your average adult watched. Nothing too crazy below, just enough of a summary to maybe peak your interests.

Casino Royale – I know what you’re thinking, and you’re correct. This is NOT the first time I’ve seen this film, but it’s been a good number of years, and my Hannibal obsession made it an almost mandatory re-watch. Well worth it though! Great to see such a strong 007 debut for Daniel Craig, and Mads Mikkelsen just plays an excellent bad guy, what can I say?! Get your action fix with this while we’re all waiting on No Time to Die.

King Arthur – This 2004 star-studded epic by Jerry Bruckheimer came out just a year after the start of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, so it’s no surprise that Kiera Knightly popped up in this film, but the rest of the cast is equally as magical. The only sad thing is that at least three of them looked the same from a distance, so that made quick action scenes a little hard to track. Again, my Hannibal obsession made this a must-watch since both Hugh and Mads make up a part of King Arthur’s knights. Take it or leave it, though.

Desparados – This new Netflix comedy was a tough watch. Nasim Pedrad (one of my SNL alum favorites), was chaotic and very stereotypical in this semi-raunchy rom-com. Although, I don’t really think there’s anything romantic about a woman who is essentially a stalker because she’s so desperate to be in a relationship. Hard pass.

The Hollars – One of John Krasinski’s dramatic directing efforts, this movie was a pretty pleasant watch even though the family it features is anything but. I suppose it’s a somewhat honest look at an American family, with each member going through their own degrees of chaos as they all try to deal with their mother’s recent brain tumor discovery. A little sad and a little funny. Hit or miss, too.
