Roswell, New Mexico and Prodigal Son Recap

Oh, Monday. What joy you bring to my nightly television viewing. At this present moment, that’s mainly because of Roswell, New Mexico, but I can give some credit to Prodigal Son, who is airing its last handful of episodes at a snail’s pace. Either way, entertainment. In this time of self-isolation, that’s all I’m asking for. So here we go!

Film & Book Review: A Million Little Pieces

Several months back, I saw that an actor I really admire (yes, from Kick-Ass), was going to lead an adaptation of the memoir, A Million Little Pieces. When I think back to the time that the book came out, I remember I thought the cover was really cool, but memoirs aren’t really something I search out to read. I also remember a bunch of controversy surrounding the book, but I couldn’t remember why. Turns out, not all of the memoir was true.

Movie Mania!

I may not be able to see brand spanking new movies in the theater, but that doesn’t stop me from watching a myriad of older ones that have been on my radar for quite some time. It also helps that I have cable and a bunch of streaming services (priorities, people!). All of that combined with a few days I took off means I got to watch a bunch of movies!

Mockumentary Double-Feature

I’ve got free HBO for the week, so I finally watched two films I’ve been dying to watch for quite some time now: 7 Days in Hell and Tour de Pharmacy. From the great mind of Andy Samberg, these films make fun of two very niche sports, tennis and cycling. They also focus on very specific times from them: the 2010 Wimbledon match that lasted three days, and doping.

Album Review: Silverstein, A Beautiful Place to Drown

I don’t know if I’m just not paying that much attention, but it seems like post-hardcore’s stalwarts, Silverstein, just keep cranking out albums at an insane pace. It didn’t feel like that long ago I was at Warped Tour having the band sign my copy of their latest release, Dead Reflection…but apparently, it’s been three years! Anyways, as I was finishing up a drawing, I popped in their latest effort, A Beautiful Place to Drown.

Succession – Season 2

Alright, the time has come during this quarantine and down-time in my regular viewing to finally watch the second season of Succession. I also felt I wanted to put some distance between the seasons, because like I said in my review of the first season, this show is intense. And like I also said before, this show deserves all the awards it’s received! In fact, it may deserve more. After finishing the final episode today, I’m not sure why Jeremy Strong hasn’t been nominated for everything.

Fan Art Friday: Milo Ventimiglia/Heroes

While I’d like to lie to you all and say this fan art Friday is dedicated to Milo Ventimiglia, and Milo Ventimiglia alone, I can’t. It’s about his specific role on my favorite television show of all time: Heroes. And sadly, we are nearing its 10-year off-the-air anniversary, and that had me feeling a little nostalgic. This show’s four seasons aired during my years in high school, so I’d like to think it resonated pretty heavily in my life. Do I think this show would do better now? Abso-freaking-lutely! But unfortunately, after its one season reboot, I think it’s dead forever, so all I’ve got are the DVDs…and now two drawings of my favorite character: Peter Petrelli. Played by the gorgeous and enigmatic Milo Ventimiglia, I don’t think I could have loved a television character more. So for fun, these drawings are twelve years apart, and just like all snowflakes are different, apparently, so are drawings. Enjoy (oh, and watch Heroes)!!

Music Review: Tame Impala

My music listening continues! As does my drawing, which is why the music is happening more. This time, I popped in Tame Impala’s records, Currents and The Slow Rush. Since the latter album just dropped on Valentine’s Day, I really haven’t had the opportunity to give it a listen. And since it’s been four years since the release of Currents, I decided to give that another spin.
