Album Review: Silverstein, A Beautiful Place to Drown

I don’t know if I’m just not paying that much attention, but it seems like post-hardcore’s stalwarts, Silverstein, just keep cranking out albums at an insane pace. It didn’t feel like that long ago I was at Warped Tour having the band sign my copy of their latest release, Dead Reflection…but apparently, it’s been three years! Anyways, as I was finishing up a drawing, I popped in their latest effort, A Beautiful Place to Drown.

While I’ve listened to Silverstein for over two decades, they never been my all-time favorite band, but they’ve always had winning tracks, so buying their new records is a no-brainer for me. There were twelve consistently curated tracks on this record, featuring a myriad of guest vocals, but none quite hit the mark like the Aaron Gillespie aided “Infinite.” Easily my favorite track off the album, I find myself singing the chorus hours after I finished listening to it, so that’s real staying power!

Truthfully, the rest of the album sort of fell flat for me. Despite the number of guest vocals, everything sort of sounded the same in terms of instrumentals. Caleb Shomo added his pipes to the track “Burn It Down,” but I had a hard time differentiating his vocals from Shane’s. All in all, it’s not a bad listen, just nothing exceptional. I’d say get nostalgic, and pop in Discovering the Waterfront instead.
