I’m ashamed of myself for still not going to see Tony in the theaters this weekend, but I did get some good watches in.
Idiots – It’s a shame they had to change the name from it’s original Shitheads title, but I can see where the need to do so was necessary. In any case, this was a film about two strangers attempting to transport a heathen to rehab. One is a man who is constantly trying to be good but just making so many mistakes along the way, while the other is a bit of degenerate just looking to make some cash. The real piece of work in this is Sheridan, an extremely wealthy teen who uses his connections to just be an awful person. This kid is a sociopath and he sucks. There were definitely some hilarious moments in the film, including what I hope is another original song by Nicholas Braun’s crazy character, but overall this felt like a bit of a chore to sit through at times.
The Furious – I am kind of mad at myself for talking myself out of seeing this film in theaters. I was so nervous about the English and dubbing being so bad that it would totally take away from the epic fights scenes I’d been reading about. Well, I worried for basically no reason. Were some bits off? Yes, but only a little bit, and definitely not enough for me to care. The film felt like if John Wick met The Childe. Somewhere in South Asia kids are being trafficked, and so two men come together to take down those deplorable humans for different reasons. One man is trying to find his wife who was hoping to expose the ring, while the other recently had his daughter abducted by them. The fight scenes are lengthy, but they are smooth and explosive – so, so impressive! If you like action, do not skip out on this one!
The Whisper Man – With a name as stupid as The Whisper Man, I don’t think I put too much thought into this film before it dropped on Netflix, but with Robert DeNiro and Adam Scott as its two main leads, I was at least going to check it out. Well, perhaps I’m a fool because this film rocked! Michelle Monaghan plays a detective who is recently in charge of a missing boy case. When details start lining up with the activities of a locked away serial killer, she enlists the detective who help put him away. Reluctant to get involved, he is soon swayed when his estranged grandson is the next boy gone missing. This movie was tense the whole way through and I was never sure what was going to happen next! I definitely see myself watching this again in the near future. In fact, this might be the most excited I’ve been about a movie so far this year!
