I realize it is technically still winter, but we’re already a couple of weeks into March! Blame COVID, I suppose. Anyways, I know I missed out on the last several 9-1-1 Lone Star reviews, so I figured I should get you up to speed!
Here are the big takeaways from the two episodes leading up to the winter finale. T.K. feels left out when he learns he’s going to be a big brother in his twenties, Gwyneth and Owen find out the baby isn’t Owen’s, and T.K. decides to become a paramedic! Those are some crazy happenings! T.K.’s switch over to the paramedics at first came as a shock, but he’ll still be around the 126 all the time really. It did take him a hot minute to connect with Nancy, but they all seems pretty well in synch by the finale’s end, and you’ll learn why here in a second!
After learning the baby isn’t Owen’s, Gwyneth decides to pack up and move back to New York. So much for giving it a go. The pair decide to wait and tell T.K. since he’s just celebrated his first year sober since almost dying during the first season’s premiere episode. Elsewhere, Carlos gets suspended after letting a bank robber go. To be fair, I don’t blame Carlos for going with his gut on this one. Sure, people can be really convincing when they want to be, but this guy had a bomb strapped around his neck and he was pleading about just wanting to see his kid again.
Turns out Carlos knew what he was talking about, because a little while later, Tommy, Nancy, and T.K. get taken hostage by the trio behind the bank robbery and an apartment explosion that the 126 responded to earlier that day. At gunpoint, the trio are told to save one of the criminals who is internally bleeding and on the brink of death. Those scenes were all extremely tense, and T.K. gets himself knocked unconscious at one point! Carlos gets worried when T.K. doesn’t show up for dinner, and Owen and Gwyneth think he possibly relapsed after learning about their split. Somewhat unluckily though, Owen finds out their truck never came back from the false call earlier in the day.
Owen and Carlos head out in search of the group. T.K. was smart enough to leave a clue, and then the pair are able to determine that they are probably camped out at Tommy’s husband’s abandoned restaurant. Thank goodness they were right or it might have been lights out for Tommy! In all of this, Carlos is able to return to work and he garners some respect from his father, who was the state trooper investigating the robbers. Even though I was glad to see Carlos and his dad bond, I liked to see him and Owen bond even more! I think T.K. and Carlos have a bright future together ahead of them.
Finally, a bewildering cliffhanger! Wouldn’t be a winter finale without one, right? On the way to visit Judd’s father, he and Grace are joking when Judd more seriously mentions that he’s ready to start trying for children. In their shared delight and disbelief, the two swerve off a bridge and into the water in the middle of the night. What?! I don’t feel like they give those two enough screen time and their relationship is so sweet. I can’t imagine one of them dying, but there are plenty of awful things that can come of this. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see!
