It’s getting down to the wire for my weekly dramas, so of course they were even more dramatic! In fact, to even add to the drama, Prodigal Son went ahead and got itself cancelled. They better have a dang good finale next week. Regardless, let’s see what went down this week.
On 911 Lone Star, they really had me fooled! They played the long con, and not only did it work on the intended person, but it also worked on me! So, Owen wakes at Billy’s house after getting knocked unconscious at the warehouse, but manages to make it to Carlos and T.K.’s place without looking too suspicious. While there, he and Carlos’ dad, Gabriel discuss who the arsonist could possibly be. Owen is adding all the pieces together and goes to Judd confiding in him that he thinks the arsonist is Billy. It really does make sense, and seems even more suspicious when the next day Billy we see Billy show a detective pictures of Owen at the warehouse just before the second fire starts! Uncool! Owen gets arrested personally by Gabriel which makes things really tense and awkward between T.K. and Carlos. It seems like Owen is really going to go to jail for this, until the detective that Billy tipped off goes to the hospital to kill a witness! That’s right, Owen, Gabriel, and Billy pulled off the ultimate set-up, but the detective got to make some big speech before setting himself on fire. He had threatened what Owen loved most, so he managed to call and get everyone out of the firehouse before it exploded…several times. But of course there was more! While T.K. and Carlos were in the middle of make-up sex, there house basically burst into flames! Luckily, they made it out unscathed. Finally, I feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief when they decide to gut-punch us with Tommy coming home to find Charles unresponsive with a clouded eye in a chair. I have no clue what this means, but it was devastating! There are two episodes left before the season finale, so I’ll be interested to see what happens after all of this episode’s chaos.
This week’s Prodigal Son was pretty exciting! Martin is still at large which has Malcolm reeling, and his intensity to keep going to find him gets him kicked off the case for good (officially). We all know Malcolm won’t just sit back and let that happen, so when he’s flipping furniture in his father’s prison cell, he finds some of the butterscotch wrappers from Capshaw’s infirmary. He isn’t sure whether to think that Martin has Capshaw as his victim or if it’s the other way around. Ainsley seems more willing to follow whatever lead Malcolm goes with, but Jessica is sure Capshaw is the victim in this case. That’s when we learn Capshaw’s got a bit of a savior complex, as Malcolm and Dani go exploring into her past. They also find a warehouse she owns that’s full of narcotics! Malcolm ends up willingly going with Capshaw because he is desperate to find his father. Speaking of Martin, while the search for him was going on, Capshaw unleashed her full crazy on him. She claims that she’s always pictured this life of them together because she knows he needs to be with someone who is intellectually his equal. To prove that, she decides to kill him and bring him back to life a few times! She also decides to do the same thing to Malcolm when he goes with her. Capshaw declares she ahs to do this because she wants Martin’s love for her to be the same as it is for his son. Malcolm nearly dies when the procedure gets interrupted, but Martin frees himself just in time to save him. A really profound thing happens here, where Malcolm whispers disbelieving and lovingly, “you saved my life.” It seems like a love for his father is reignited in this moment, so Malcolm tells Martin to run. By the time Dani gets down to the torture dungeon Martin is gone, but Malcolm is, too. We next see them on a speedboat to who knows where! Just so we’re clear, Capshaw is playing the victim when Ainsley and Dani show up, but I feel like that phone call Ainsley recorded is enough to disprove that. Next week is unexpectedly the series finale, so I hope some pretty shocking stuff happens!
Finally, on the penultimate episode of Big Sky’s first season, we see the Kleinsasser family story sort of wrap itself up in a bow. Gli gets picked up by Horst while Jenny and Cassie start hoofing it in opposite directions to split up the pursuing of John Wayne and Rand. Jenny ends up getting tackled and punched, while Cassie shoots at Rand who’s trying to run her over. She gets clipped, but it’s clear that Rand was headed for a wreck. In the morning, Rosie finds Cassie while looking for her dad, and the two end up finding a dying Rand. Margaret finds Rand too and at this point she’s determined she’s had enough of Horst. Horst meanwhile unsuccessfully gets Jenny to just leave town and drop what’s she discovered, so he order John Wayne to kill her. He also gives Cheyenne the opportunity to earn her place in the family by killing Gil, but unsurprisingly she can’t go through with it. Also, Jenny finally breaks through to John Wayne’s emotions who tearfully admits to killing Blake before she shoots him. Although, it ends up being Cheyenne who delivers the kill shot to the gut. By the time Margaret gets back to the house she’s called the cops on Horst. Cassie and Jenny intercept Sheriff Wagy on the way to the ranch and get him to admit that he ordered an officer to kill Cassie that night she got abducted. Looks like Wagy won’t be sheriff for much longer. Meanwhile, Ronald covers pretty well with Scarlett’s kid about what he’s burying in the woods during the middle of the night, but their camping trip is cut short when Scarlett gets a call from Mark and Jerrie about her missing sister. Scarlett panics and says they have to get to her sister’s house. It’s not long after that she reveals she killed her daughter’s father, and that she knows who Ronald is. That doesn’t seem to matter to her though, and it appears that Ronald has just found the love of his life. I still hope he ends up being the one killing her. I think I called this from the beginning, but this season belongs to Ronald, and I imagine that even into the second season, it will still be Ronald in the main villain spotlight. Guess we’ll find out!
