Two of my favorite bands released new music the past couple weeks and I’m here for it! Neither Bastille nor Foster the People have put out a full length record for quite a few years, so I’m at least thankful to the pandemic for getting me some new tunes from them!
First up was Bastille’s EP, Goosebumps. Sure, it only had three brand new songs and two reconfigured versions of two of those songs, but it was a good time. It also brought me back to the sounds of their last two records, Doom Days and Wild World. Sadly, I don’t think they’ll ever revert back to the Bad Blood days. Regardless, the style adoption definitely worked for “survivin” but not so well on the title track, “Goosebumps.” “Survivin” also incorporates some groovy sax at the end and I’m here for it! Their third track, “What You Gonna Do???” seemed like a complete departure for them, as it was very rock sounding. I loved it!
Next was Foster the People’s EP, In the Darkest of Nights, Let the Birds Sing. This six-track outing was truly fantastic! Also, I should backtrack and say that even though we haven’t gotten a full-length release for them in a while, they have released an abundance of singles this year – yay! If you take all of those releases and add them to this bunch, then I guess you could say we did get an album out of them. Regardless, these songs were so groovy and I loved them so much. Leading track, “Walk With A Big Stick,” was such a fantastic choice. It got me in a dancing mood real quick. The rest of the songs were almost as equally as strong.
Overall, I’m really excited that these two EPs came out! Both were really fun to listen to and were a nice escape from the mundane life that the pandemic has brought. If I could, I’d tell you to listen to one of these over the other, but I enjoyed them so much that I can’t! Also, they’re EPs, so their short, and you’ve definitely got the time to check them out!
