Book Review: Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux

We’re nearing the end of Abigail Roux’s series featuring Ty Grady and Zane Garrett, and I’m kind of sad about it!

With that being said, Touch & Geaux was probably my least favorite in the series. Though we do get a lot more revelations about our main couple. Almost immediately, Ty and Zane are coaxed down to New Orleans to save Ty’s friend Nick from being locked up. Turns out it’s just a prank to get them in town to celebrate the loss of one of their fellow Marines. While Ty loves his team, he’s also not supposed to be in New Orleans because of some previous undercover work he did involving a seriously corrupted local sheriff. Likewise, Zane has done some dangerous undercover work in the city in his past that makes it dangerous for him to be there.

Just when everything seems like it might go off without a hitch, Ty gets cursed. And the only way to break a curse is to have the person who cast the hex, lift it. Zane doesn’t totally buy into this stuff, but he is always looking out for Ty, so it takes it seriously for the time being. It’s when they start digging into Ty’s past in New Orleans when things start breaking down for the couple. Zane meets Ty’s old flame, Ava, and realizes he got propositioned by the pair almost a decade ago. He’s mad that he didn’t realize, and he’s mad for Ty not telling him that he did. While Zane’s heated about that, he also learns that the whole reason Ty ever came into his orbit was due to a mission meant to keep tabs on Zane. After his time undercover in a drug cartel for so long, he couldn’t be trusted by Burns.

This revelation totally breaks Zane’s trust in Ty and I think he’s totally right to be able to flip out about this. I think he’s also allowed to be super mad about Ty keeping so many things secret. It really does make it seem like Ty values the job over Zane. With that being said, it’s clear that Ty’s feeling for Zane are genuine and real, it was just a messy road to get there. With all of this personal drama going on, it makes it hard for the team to try and find a way out. They do get some reluctant help from an old Marine contact they thought was dead, and it turns out there are actually three people trying to kill Ty in New Orleans.

In the end, knowing there were two books left in the series, I figured Ty and Zane would make peace with each other, but I did not know it would also end with Ty being called back to active duty! I’m interested to see where the next book goes, but I just hope it’s a little more palatable than this entry. Still good though!
