Ted Lasso – Season 1 Review

Let me just start off saying that I had some real doubts about Ted Lasso. As much as I like Jason Sudeikis, the premise of this show just seemed a little lame. A football coach with a slight southern accent gets chosen to coach an English Primier League football team. He’s clearly out of his depth, and I was nervous that the show would solely rely on those out of the loop jokes. Well, joke’s on me. This show was an actual delight to watch and I already can’t wait for the second season (it was renewed five days after its initial release)!

Fargo – Season 4 Premiere, Episodes 1 & 2

After three long years and a coronavirus setback later, the fourth season of Fargo has finally arrived! And while I approached it with some trepidation seeing Chris Rock as the top billing, I still have so much faith in this season being as fantastic as the rest. They surely started off well! With the slight cliffhanger at the end of the second episode, it’s definitely left me itching for more. Without giving everything away, here’s a high level overview of what went down in the season premiere.

Defending Jacob Miniseries Review

I keep chugging along through shows with my new Apple+ subscription, and next on my list was a show I was really excited about when I first saw an advertisement for it, Defending Jacob. Sure, it’s got everyone’s favorite Captain America, Chris Evans, and Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery, but the premise just sounded so intriguing that I was going to watch it regardless of its leads.

Emmys 2020: Winners, Losers, and Everything in Between

Last night saw the first major awards show since the pandemic began, and I was excited to get it in whatever format they could manage. Thus, I watched an (almost) totally virtual Emmy Awards, or as I’ve seen it so cleverly referenced, the “Pandemmys.” The show opened with host Jimmy Kimmel seemingly talking to a full house of actors and guest alike. I’m not going to lie, this fooled me for the first minute. I thought to myself, “well, maybe they worked something out and had everyone quarantine for two weeks,” even though I’d heard nothing of the sort mentioned in the last several months since the virtual show was announced. Then I noticed people in the crowd who weren’t nominated, or actors from shows who were no longer on the air. Then we saw Jimmy Kimmel himself in the crowd.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet Review

While I was watching the very serious drama, The Morning Show, I decided that I also wanted to pepper in some comedy. I did that in the form of Apple +’s Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. Created by Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I knew I was going to watch it regardless of what it was about. It also didn’t hurt that when the show premiered at the start of the year it received universal rave reviews. That usually sells me on a show pretty quickly.

2020 Emmy Awards: Predictions

Awards season is back with the Primetime Emmy Awards this coming Sunday, and even though it won’t look like it normally does, my heart is still so happy that it’s taking place! Lots of great shows are getting love, but I believe there are a small handful that are going to sweep all the categories they show up in. Who knows?! Maybe I will get proven wrong. We shall see. While we wait, below are my predictions of who will win and maybe who should win (if I disagree). Let’s roll!

The Morning Show Review

Alright, I have finally caved and subscribed to Apple+ in order to watch the last series I wanted to get to before the Emmys air this Sunday, The Morning Show. Look, when this show first got announced, I dug into my hipster way and refused to watch because of some of the cast. Yes, I am a big fan of Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass, but Jennifer Aniston and Resse Witherspoon are just slightly overrated in my opinion and that was enough to turn me off initially. That coupled with all the hype around the show also turned me off. Sometimes excitement about a show gets me excited about it, but sometimes it has the opposite effect on me. Go figure. Regardless of how I felt then, though, I really, really enjoyed The Morning Show and I’m glad I finally gave it a viewing!
