Concert Review: Ampers&One

Freaking finally! A concert in person! It’s absurd to me that I haven’t been to one since the end of November. In fact, I get mad just thinking about it, but the drought is finally over! Late last week I headed down to Columbus to a venue that normally hosts metal acts and watched newbie K-pop group Ampers&One.

Now, if you’ve been paying attention to my fan art posts, you knew this concert was coming. As I might have already mentioned, Ampers&One only came into my life after a social media add notified me that they were coming to Ohio. Just like Omega X, any K-pop act giving Ohio the time of day deserves my attention. It was crazy to me both how young these guys were, but also how early into their career they were. They have only been an official group for a little over a year with two mini albums and one full length album to their name. That’s not a lot of songs. And after being treated to Stray Kids and a very long and amazing ATEEZ show, I was curious how they were going to fill the time. Was I expecting three hours? No, but with no opening act, I was also curious how long this show was going to be.

They played through all of their tracks expertly, but they also got to freshen up a few times with alternating outfit changes. While part of the group went to change, the others members stayed behind to both chat with the audience and do some song and dance covers. Being still relatively new to K-pop, I wasn’t as familiar with the covers, but the rest of the audience went wild for them, so they must have been pretty darn good. I could at least appreciate their abbreviated performance of “God’s Menu!” Like Stray Kids and ATEEZ, I give these guys tons of credit. They have to be in pretty good shape because these performances are both high energy and pretty complicated! They were doing three to four songs in a row before breaking to talk with the audience.

They also seemed to be having a good time, and though the crowd was smaller, the screams and cheers almost literally never stopped. They maybe have said this to all of the other crowds on the tour, but they said we were the most energetic (and crazy) crowd they’ve had on tour. I hope we left a good enough impression that they’ll come back to Ohio in the future! But after the show is when a bunch of other fun stuff happened! I got to take part in a high touch, which was basically a very fast high five down the row of members, but then I also got some high quality selfies with all of the guys. Thank goodness they were the ones in charge of taking the photos though, they would have all turned out like trash if it was up to me. Anyway, it was an awesome evening and I hope those guys blow up someday soon – they deserve it!
