Concert Review – Bad Omens

Sad to say, but seeing Bad Omens is the penultimate concert I have lined up for 2022.

Also sadly, they are not a band I actively listen to. Really, I’ve only ever heard at least half of their music because my sister is obsessed with them. Given that we were supposed to see them March 12th of 2020 and then a deadly virus was consuming the world, we didn’t go. Fast forward two and half years later and we are finally seeing them. I’m sure to the delight of the band, they secured a venue twice the size they were initially supposed to play in AND they sold it out insanely quick.

I was thanking my lucky stars that my sister wasn’t super concerned about getting a great spot, which means we didn’t have to endure three opening acts I’ve only ever heard of by name. While she knew a handful of songs that Dayseeker, Make Them Suffer, and Thousand Below are known for, it wasn’t enough to convince her to stand around for an additional three hours. No complaining here. We timed it just right where we caught the very tail end of Dayseeker’s set and then a quick set change later Bad Omens took the stage. I know I said the show sold out, but this might be the most packed I’ve seen this venue.

The crowd was feeling it, and luckily my sister found a good spot to see the stage perfectly. She was having the time of her life. I thought they sounded good, and I at least knew half the set because of her incessant repeating of their albums in the past. I do find “The Death of Peace of Mind” and “Like a Villain” enjoyable. In my honest opinion, they almost sounded so good that I’m not fully convinced there was no lip synching. My sister even noted that lead singer Noah Sebastian “sounded better than the CD!” That almost sealed the deal for me. I’ll have to go find some more stripped down performances on Youtube and see if I can suss it out.

Overall though, the excitement of the crowd and my sister made for an entertaining evening. I’m glad she finally got to see them again, but I’ll just settle for a festival performance in the future if I can help it. Again, only one show left for the year, so stayed tuned a couple of weeks from now!
