Concert Review: I Don’t Know How But They Found Me

First concert back of 2022, baby!

The rock duo, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, got the honors of being the first band I saw back in action after a handful of months away. Luckily, the Rona is dying back down a little bit, and a bunch of local venues have some pretty good guidelines to follow since it all started ramping back up last August. That means I felt safe enough to attend. I also felt bold enough for this to be the second concert I’ve attended by myself! I was going to say this was my first, but I forgot about Wonderstruck Festival last year. Still, impressive to me.

Anyways, you don’t care about my personal reasons for attending a show, you just want to know how it was! Well, short answer, a blast! These guys were so great! The energy was high, the bass was (extremely) loud, and they sounded incredible. I remember listening to their debut album, Razzmatazz (and one of my favorites last year), thinking a few times that there’s no way some notes were going to be hit in a live setting. They proved me wrong! I feel like it was a valid thought though, given that I have only know lead singer/bassist, Dallon Weekes, from his relatively brief time as Panic! at the Disco’s bassist.

Regardless, they really impressed me. The crowd was also really feeling it – lots of dancing and arm swinging. Not my taste, but fun to watch sometimes. They especially went nuts when they mixed in some of Weekes’ old band’s, the Brobecks, tracks. I’d never heard of them, but I, too, enjoyed them. It was a nice mix from a lot of the pre-recorded sounds used for the iDKHOW set. But, given that I really loved Razzmatazz, I was looking forward to all the songs they’d be playing off that. Lucky for me, “Sugarpills” and “Kiss Goodnight” made the cut, and they were perfect. In looking at other shows on the tour, we were one of the lucky stops that got an additional song off the album, “Mad IQs.” Definitely not mad about that!

Overall, it was an early night, given that they only had one opener, Superet, but it was a very fun and pleasant night. Great start back into the live music scene for the year!
