If the only way I get to see GOT7 is through their solo shows, then I am a willing participant!
After deciding fairly last minute to see Yugyeom earlier this year, I definitely jumped more quickly on the chance to see GOT7’s leader, Jay B. The drive wasn’t too far and I got to enjoy a new city – Baltimore! In the lead up to this concert, I did a lot of things I never had before. I bought not one, but two different VIP tiers. In my defense, the two that I would have preferred were completely sold out by the time I got to get a ticket. And then magically a week later, one of those tiers had one available. I’ve got disposable income, so I jumped on it.
The other thing I did was participate in a fan sign event. The top three spenders were guaranteed things like a chat and a selfie, so you know I tried to shoot my shot. I really thought I would prevail, but instead I just walked away with the standard fan sign. Not that I’m complaining! I just wish I maybe would have bought fewer albums since the rest of the winners were determined by raffle. It just gave me more opportunities to get chosen. In any case, I was really excited at the chance to get up close and personal with the unfairly handsome, Jay B. I even had my friend help me make a custom shirt with cat outlines in hopes to make an impression. Hard telling if it did, but I thought I looked super cute for the evening!
All of the activities were pushed back about an hour, but thankfully the actual fan sign didn’t feel rushed. They encouraged us to say something to him in the short time we’d be standing in front of him. All I managed to say was hello and thank you in Korean, but then Jay B SHOOK MY HAND. I was not expecting that, and it was awesome. After the fan sign, I got back in line for my VIP perks. The first of which included a group photo. Just like the other time I got one, it’s weird to share that with twenty strangers, but I was standing so close to him that I’ll forgive it. After that we got to listen to soundcheck which was longer and a little more interactive than I was expecting!
After that, we all waited just a little bit longer for the actual show to start. I was so happy with my spot on the floor – I could see clearly the whole evening! “Take It Easy,” “Crash,” “B.T.W.,” and “Switch It Up” were awesome to hear live. I was also thrilled to get the full version of GOT7’s “Page” as part of the encore. He sounded incredible, he looked amazing, and he seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage. I say all of that because he squeezed all of the shows on this very short tour back to back due to some visa issues, and this particular stop was last on the list. I’m sure he was feeling pretty fatigued after traversing across the country for the past week and some change.
After the show, the VIP holders were treated to a lame five question Q&A session, and then also the hi-bye. The hi-bye/hi-touch perks continue to be the lamest experience for the money we pay. It’s over in like ten seconds and nothing memorable actually happens for most people. All in all though, it was a super fun concert experience and I was so glad to get to see another GOT7 member live! Crossing my fingers for the whole group someday, but I’ll take what I can get for now!
