So yes, I suppose neither of these are technically concerts, but this is the closest category I have to describe these two fun events.
Last Friday night, much later my time, I got to watch the Terry Crews led Last Improve Show that takes place in LA’s Dynasty Typewriter theater. I went to the live show this time last month while I was visiting a friend in California and thought this thing was a riot! I remembered that they livestream their events so I got myself a ticket and prepared for almost three hours of straight laughter. Truth be told, I didn’t find this particular s how quite as hilarious as the last one, but I suspect the in-person element really adds to the experience. Because really, the show was fantastically hilarious and I had a great time watching. Just ask my sister, she heard me giggling all night. Terry Crews told some very fun stories in line with the audiences’ prompts, and I continue to be impressed with what the improvers manage to come up with to reinterpret these stories. Great stuff!
Last Wednesday, though I finally just watched it last night, was This Is Important’s first live and livestreamed podcast taping! I can’t even begin to tell you how jealous I was of the people that actually got to attend in person, and that jealousy made me realize that I do in fact have a bad case of FOMO. Oh, well. I’ve embraced it. Anyways, I was at least comforted by the fact that they were livestreaming this particular live podcast taping. I was also pleased to learn that, true to their usual form, this podcast was about literally nothing. They just talked and argued about random topics, rehashed some old stories, went very R-rated (even with Blake’s dad in attendance!), and just generally razzed each other. That’s what I love so much about this particular podcast. It’s just four best friends shooting the shit with each other over the airwaves for everyone to hear.
I’m sure the guys are too busy for a full-fledged podcast tour, but I would absolutely love that. If they ever do another one though, I may try really hard to make it work to see in person. While I’d also love to see The Last Improv Show again live and in person, I am at least comforted by the fact that I can get quality laughs two times a month from the comfort of my couch. This is a new show that I’m so happy I learned about just by looking for things to do with my friend. If you want a night of joy, pay the 17 dollars and I promise you’ll get your money’s worth. Even if the featured guest doesn’t tickle your fancy, I’d almost guarantee you’ve heard of at least one of the other regular improvers. Good stuff!
