Look, I have a weakness for good looking boy bands, and The Wanted definitely falls into that category. They’re British and Irish, too! What’s not to like? Also, they had catchy songs and sounded excellent live. Their only fall back was that the main drag of their career also happened to be the same time One Direction was around. With the members all being slightly older they never stood a chance.
While I liked The Wanted, I don’t know that I would have gone out of my way to ever see them, but I just so happened to win some tickets off a radio station contest! The headliner was actually Carly Rae Jepsen because this was 2013 and “Call Me Maybe” was the shit, but the tickets I won gave my friend and I the opportunity to meet The Wanted ahead of the show! As a lover of all things famous, I was obviously very excited for this.
It ended up being pretty fun! There were about twenty of us in total and the band answered some questions (mine included), took photos with everyone, then sang a couple acoustic songs. This is where I was really impressed. I always approach pop music with some skepticism in that they probably won’t ever sound as good as a recording, but they proved me wrong for sure!
The concert itself was also quite enjoyable. We had decent seats, and the band performed a pretty meaty setlist for an opening slot. Carley Rae Jepsen was just fine, she sounded a bit like Alvin and the Chipmunks at times, but it’s clear there’s a talent there. Overall, a great (and free!) experience. A part of me wishes they’d get back together because I’d almost certainly go see them again!
