Fargo – Season 4, Episode 7

Alright, now that we are just a tick past the half way mark of the latest installment of Fargo, I am sort of losing my patience with a little bit of what’s going down. I’ll explain, but perhaps my recap will explain it anyways.

Lots of backstabbing between and within our dueling gangs, but the Italians definitely have the upper hand in those departments. Josto knows the Rabbi fled, but he doesn’t know he took the kid with him. He orders the kid to be killed and then tries to bargain for Gaetano to be killed by Loy, too. Naturally, Loy is mad and devastatingly sad that his son is “dead.” But he sees what the Italians are up to, and that is trying to bring him down to their level. Instead, he lets Gaetano go. I cannot wait to see what sort of revenge he inflicts upon Josto. I’m ready for those crazy eyes to come back!

Just because Loy spares Gaetano doesn’t mean he’s above spilling some blood. He also gets to Otis and threatens him to help take the Italians down. Otis is in a bit of a pickle because he keeps playing both sides, which Deafy is obviously aware of now. He confronts Otis in his car and offers that the two of them team up to take them all down, and more importantly, to get his fugitives! Otis declines, but Deafy isn’t out of the race yet. Although, he’s going to have a tougher time catching Zelmare and Swanee because they’ve just been given two tickets out of town.

Elsewhere in the episode, we see Ethelrida at the funeral home, where a cute boy almost has an encounter with the ghoul that’s been showing up in several of the episodes. Otherwise, not much else goes on with the family this time around. Oraetta can’t overcome her burning desire to know who wrote the letter about her last week, so she comes through with those macarons. Only they are obviously poisoned, and Dr. Harvard pays the ultimate price. Just another tick on Nurse Mayflower’s death list. And she doesn’t even get any satisfaction from the letter, as it was signed by “a concerned citizen.”

In case that recap didn’t spell it out, Oraetta’s story could be so much more interesting, but they just keep dragging it out. They also sort of just keep repeating themselves with her character and everyone else. Just lots of backstabbing and not much action taking place. Again, I’m aware at some point all the pieces are going to come together, but for now it just feels like they’re dragging their feet to get there. I have hope though!
