That’s right folks, I am starting off 2020 better than 2019 solely based on the fact that I’ve already been to a concert! What’s better? The fact that it was Motionless in White, who my sister and I did not see a single time last year. That’s a crime.
This was a co-headlining tour with Columbus-based, Beartooth, and the two bands were alternating the closing slot each night. Not surprisingly, Beartooth was announced to end the night in Cleveland, which suited my sister and I just fine. We are fair-weather fans of the band, and were more there to see Motionless in White.
The band Limbs was listed to open the show, but something must have fell though because it started off with Stick to Your Guns playing an 11-song set. They were a little more screaming then I would have preferred and all of their songs sounded rather similar, but that doesn’t matter because the crowd was feeling it, including a guy standing dead in the center of the pit in a banana costume. Good for him.
Most of Motionless in White’s set pieces were already on stage, so the wait in between sets was pretty minimal. The last several times I’ve seen them, the stage had a lot of gothic statues and Halloween related props, but this past year they’ve finally switched things up with a more simple/industrial feel. Even Chris’s outfit was more militant, like body armor. You can tell ever single member of that band loves being on stage and putting on a good show. Newest member, bassist from Ice Nine Kills, Justin Morrow, took over for Ghost’s dressing up and went all out with face paint. The crowd was so loud, and Chris even said so, which is always fun to hear. They played a healthy dose of new songs mixed in with old staples, but they ended the set with “Eternally Yours” and threw roses out into the crowd.
It was a great show, and I hope they swing back around at another point this year, but either way, I love getting back into the swing of concerts! Until next time.
