In an over-stuffed and shortened awards season, I was reminded again last night why the Grammy Awards are my least favorite. It was another top 40 showcase that certainly isn’t awarding the “best” of anything, just the most popular and most lucrative. But I digress. Here goes the recap for the biggest night in music.
There were so many performances that it was almost odd when the select few awards got handed out. Almost all collaborations, some stand-out acts of the night were the tribute to Prince featuring Usher and FKA Twigs, Areosmith with Run DMC, Lil Nas X with Billy Rae Cyrus and BTS, and my personal favorite Tyler, the Creator with Boys II Men and Charlie Wilson. The rest were all extended medleys from the likes of Ariana Grande, Lizzo, and the Jonas Brothers (not that I dislike either of them, I’m just over it).
The rare awards that got handed out during the live show mainly went to Billie Eilish (five total, including all the major categories). The only solace I get from that many wins is that she’s dethroned Taylor Swift as the youngest Album of the Year winner. Otherwise, the awards went to who you expected, except for maybe Tyler, the Creator. I’m still peeved at the lack of rock present in this telecast, but maybe with all of the shifting within the Recording Academy we’ll see some seismic changes next year…it’s good to have dreams, I know.
That’s all I’ve got to say about this awards show without getting myself in trouble, so if you want more, go scouring Youtube or Google.
