Happy Merry Ending Series Review

Since I’ve only got my plus subscription to Viki until the end of the month, I’ve made it a point to try and check out a few more series that fall under that umbrella. Two cute leads caught my eye for Merry Happy Ending, so I decided to put that next in the queue.

This is another KBL, and like most other KBLs, it was only eight, very short episodes. I suppose I should start thinking about these shows as movies cut up into bite sized pieces, because that’s really all they are. Not that I mind. Anyway, in this series, Seung Jun is a singing coach who also takes gigs as a wedding singer on the side. He seems unenthused about where he is at in life, but things take a turn when he’s starts being seduced by the pianist from his most recent wedding, Jae Hyun.

Having been severely traumatized by his first past love, Seung Jun tries his best to avoid Jae Hyun, but the latter remains persistent. It’s clear that Seung Jun’s past love did a real number on him, as he takes medication for panic attacks. His longtime neighbor and best friend, Ho Yeon does his best to always be there for him, but it’s clear that Seung Jun has never moved on from the trauma. It’s also a little difficult because it appears that Ho Yeon harbors a bit of a crush on his friend, but he knows he shouldn’t act on those feelings. Instead, he is supportive of Jae Hyun’s mission to seduce Seung Jun.

Things seem to be looking up for the pair until his former first love comes barreling back into his life through a new trainee. It’s then that we learn the Seung Jun was once a former trainee under his former crush, who also happened to be the CEO of the company. It was clear he was just using Seung Jun, along with several other of the trainees, but then sought out to make Seung Jun’s life a living hell. All of that aggression and retaliation led Seung Jun to quit the company and that’s why we see him where he is today. He contemplates going back into this bad space to help out the trainee, but in the end, he decides to cut all things out of his life. Including Jae Hyun.

One year later, Seung Jun seems to be at an all time high. He’s slowly becoming a solo idol and is beginning his schedules when Jae Hyun catches wind of a nearby performance. It’s clear that Seung Jun’s songs are influenced by their short-lived relationship, so he jets over to try and reconnect. Luckily, there isn’t much awkwardness or tension between the two. It seems to be only relief now that Seung Jun is free from his past. The two rekindle their relationship, along with their relationship to music – the thing that brought them together in the first place!

This wasn’t my favorite BL by a long shot, but the two leads were incredibly cute together, so I can look past the issues. Maybe not worth checking out, but at such a low time commitment, why not?
