Somehow during this insanely busy weekend, I made time for some seasonal viewings.
Something from Tiffany’s – This movie was not annoyingly cute, which I appreciate. However, I can tell you that a month from now, I will definitely not remember that I watched this. Even though Zoey Deutch is Rachel, a kind bakery and restaurant owner, but even her natural charms cannot make anything in this holiday rom-com memorable. Her somewhat self-absorbed boyfriend gets hit by a car and can’t remember that he didn’t buy her an engagement ring from Tiffany’s. That ring got accidently swapped by the equally nice man, Ethan, who was just trying to make sure he was okay. Of course, odd interventions ensue and it’s obvious Rachel and Ethan have the chemistry instead of their significant others. Light and charming, but forgettable. Not necessarily a bad thing to watch this time of year.
Just Friends – I mean, a holiday classic that the world finally became privy to last year. Some things in here are so dated they make you cringe, but I laugh just as much now as I did the first time watching it. Ryan Reynolds at his sarcastic finest with an equally fitting supporting cast. If not now, when will you watch this gem?!
The Binge 2: It’s a Wonderful Binge – Never in a million years would I have thought a sequel would have come from The Binge, a strange movie that mixes drinking and drugs with The Purge. In this sequel though, we lose a couple key players, but manage to score some interesting new ones. Oh yeah, also The Binge is moved to Christmas because the government realized no one wants to deal with family sober. Sure, I got some good chucks and gigs out of this, but it’s not great. But neither was the first one, and that’s okay. Sometimes you just need cheap laughs.
About Fate – Now is the time when this movie should have been released, but no matter, I just watched it again because it’s so damn likeable! Margot gets dumped right before her sister’s wedding and enlists the help of a stranger she found sleeping in her bed (long story). Of course these two have incredible chemistry, and we get some conflict amidst all the sweet stuff. For me, this is almost as perfect as Holiday in Handcuffs (that’s high praise!). A must watch, please.
