Half way through their fourteen already released seasons, I am still loving the ride It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is taking me on. In fact, I find myself binging more episodes at a time then I did at the start, and that’s a good sign for any show. I can count on countless laugh out load moments, as well as shielding my eyes from something incredibly socially awkward and unacceptable.
In fact, nothing summed up all of those characteristics more than in the two-part season finale, when the gang goes to their high school reunion. While most of their classmates reverted back to old insults and personas from back in the day, it is clear that the gang have truly remained the most unchanged. They all try to either shed their old selves while simultaneously getting back at those who have “wronged” them in the past.
Although, their efforts end up backfiring on all fronts, but we do get to witness an incredibly hilarious dance routine to George Michaels’ “Freedom” that is a must-see in the series if you ask me. While that was quite comical, there were a few other episodes throughout the season that stood out to me more. “Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties” almost had me on the floor by the time the actual pageant rolled around, and I was almost equally as taken by Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games.” Think “True American from New Girl.
You also can’t talk about the seventh season without making reference to Fat Mac. That’s right, in real life, creator Rob McElhenney gained 60lbs to portray a certain arc for his character, which amounted mostly to “gaining mass.” I did enjoy the episode where he tried explaining to a priest why his friends were the reason for his increase in size. Him wheezing while eating was also both parts disgusting and hysterical. He went to bat for comedy, and I would say it paid off. Can’t wait to see what awaits me in the latter half of this series!
