Mediocre Murder Mystery

Last night I decided to give Adam Sandler’s latest Neflix film, Murder Mystery, a shot, and I wasn’t really all too impressed. But it’s a comedy, and I’m not humorless, so I definitely threw out some laughs.

To preface, I am not a die-hard Adam Sandler fan which is why I haven’t seen the other five films he’s released through Netflix in the past couple years. What did sell me on giving this a try was his co-star Jennifer Aniston. I enjoyed the two together in 2011’s Just Go With It, so I figured this was going to be moderately promising. And it delivered what I expected it to: some very middle-school level jokes – which I enjoy sometimes!

The story follows long-time married couple, Nick and Audrey, who go on a long-awaited honeymoon to Europe. On the flight over they meet charming, yet suspicious Brit, Charles Cavandish (played by the always underrated Chris Evans), who invites them to their family’s yacht. This is when the who dun-nit and chasing ensues. Sure, plenty of body humor and frequent one-liners, but nothing really extraordinary happened throughout the film.

If you are a fan of the slew of mediocre movies that Adam Sandler has pumped out in the past decade, then go ahead and watch Murder Mystery. If you’ve got a more refined sense of humor, then why the hell are you even looking at anything with Adam Sandler movies to begin with? Plenty of better comedies out there, so I suppose it just depends if you’re in the mood for it.
