I don’t know that anything I watched this weekend I planned on watching, but I have zero regrets about any of them. All were practically spur of the moment, with a few that I’d never even really heard of before. They also covered a wide array of genres which always makes for an entertaining time. I would say if you picked any of these films to watch in the future you won’t be let down. I promise!

Detroit Awakening/Detroit Evolution – Since I wanted to re-watch Detroit Evolution, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to watch the short film introduced this video game into the film world, Detroit Awakening. Look, for the length, it was fine, but that full-length second film was much better. Certainly not a waste of your time, though – watch both!

The Babysitter 2: Killer Queen – Having just watched the original film earlier this year, I was fairly excited for this sequel. It’s so campy and I love it! It did not disappoint. The setting is a little broader and everyone is a little older (can we agree that Judah Lewis had an amazing glow-up?!), but the core cast is all there and delivers some interesting topics, good laughs, and a lot of gore.

Bad Samaritan – This movie was nothing like I expected, and David Tennet plays unhinged really well. What starts as a robbery of a rich man, turns into a fight to save a woman in his clutches, but the path to get there is absolutely bonkers. When I thought I knew what to expect next, I got jostled into a new reality. This movie was a random video store purchase, but I’m rather proud of myself for it. $2 well spent!

The Vast of Night – This science fiction film set in the 50s is equal parts eerie and endearing. It follows fast-talking radio host, Everett, as he helps equally fast-talking switchboard operator, Fay, discover the source of the strange noises coming through town on the night of the big basketball game. Shot through the dead of night in this small New Mexico town, the film is elevated with sweeping shots and tense musical swirls. Very cool take on an old genre!

Changeland – Automatically good for playing a song by The Ting Tings and MGMT. Also featuring McCauly Culkin?! Yes, all these things are true! But apart from that, it follows two old friends who reconnect on a trip to Thailand after one of them finds out their wife has been cheating. Quite an entertaining feature film for Seth Green!
