My Personal Weatherman – Series Review

My Personal Weatherman has been hovering at near the top of my watch-list for quite some time, but I’ve just been too stingy to pay Viki to watch it. It finally happened thanks to a stockpile of shows I’ve been itching to see on there and this series did not disappoint!

This is only my second JBL series and I’ve come to realize that they are…different. Both this and My Beautiful Man have leads that are either meek and traumatized or mean and insecure. What they also have in common is that they have no clue how to communicate. It is clear that both pairs really do like each other, but they act in such a way where both parties aren’t sure anymore. It’s kind of frustrating, but the chemistry on both shows is enough that I don’t care.

In this series, Yoh is an erotic manga artist living with his senpai Mizuki, who is a popular and very handsome weatherman. Back in school, Mizuki told Yoh to live with him so he could pursue his manga while not having to worry about living expenses. After four years together though, there is a bitter complacency with this arrangement. Yoh does get to work on his manga, but he is also responsible for all of the housework and cooking. Dinner is expected to be ready by the time Mizuki returns home from work and Yoh never even gets a thank you. Mizuki is cold and blunt and only sleeps with Yoh when it’s sunny.

Yoh is conflicted because he hates these things about Mizuki, but it’s also clear that he is in love with him. Yoh himself cannot come up with this and just thinks it’s more of an obsession, because he also can’t believe someone like Mizuki could like someone like Yoh. While Yoh’s love does seem to be one-sided, there are very quickly hints that Mizuki is possessive of Yoh. Eventually, he get so jealous of Yoh’s manga friend and co-worker that he forbids him from leaving the house. Both experience extreme and debilitating jealousy and neither of them ever really bother to clear things up from these blatant misunderstandings.

It’s only after reflecting on their past and how they came to know each other that they are reminded of why they are so important to each other in the first place. It reignites their passion for each other. While it doesn’t necessarily solve all of their problems, it does lead to some very steamy scenes, and then also some really caring ones. I think the two are headed in the right direction. And personally, I would love to see more to this story, though I don’t think I’ll get that lucky. While I really liked all of the intimate scenes, I also really enjoyed the flashback episodes from both of their perspectives. These two polar opposites maybe should never have ever interacted with each other, but there was an undeniable pull and maybe more in common then they would ever really know.

I’m really glad I snuck this one in just before the new year was over – it was truly a terrific watch!
