Some much needed new music from some awesome artists!
The Chats
“6L GTR” – I get to see these guys this coming Thursday and then again next week, so this new single came at the perfect time! This new song is also the first off of their upcoming sophomore release, Get F**ked, out August 19th. I’m pretty excited about that! As like all other songs from The Chats, this one is just as punchy and catchy. I only had to hear it once to be singing it all day. Obviously the song is about a car, but the accompanying music video that came with the track was pretty neat. It was all in a black and white cartoon format as they race through the streets in a van until they wreck it and acquire, you guessed it, a six liter GTR. Good stuff!
Motionless in White
“Masterpiece” – I’m a little slow to the punch here, but the second single off of Motionless In White’s upcoming June 10th release, Scoring the End of the Earth, is pretty damn good! I would say two-thirds of it sounds like something that would have for sure thrived in the early 2000s emo scene – especially the chorus. Of course, they do a great job of mixing up the clean vocals with screams and growls, so it gives it a little bit more uniqueness. Based off the music video released with this track, it shows Chris looking at old photos in an abandoned house, I would say this song is about past regrets, but then also being able to burn it all down and start over. Either way, this second single tells me that the new album is going to sound pretty eclectic and I’m here for it!
Nothing More
“Tired of Winning/Ships in the Night” – These guys have got me confused. Not all that long ago they released a single, but evidently this song is the first single off an upcoming new album. No other details have been released yet, but I’ll be looking forward to it for sure! This is another great entry from the band, unsurprisingly. It’s obviously rock, but with a bit of a techno aspect to it. It reminded me of space in parts, which kind of fit with the music video. All this single really reminds me of is that I don’t know why these guys aren’t huge?! They totally have the ability to be mainstream if they wanted, but I think they’re really just lacking an audience…get on it, people!
Amyl and the Sniffers
“Hertz” – Because I listen to The Chats and Wet Leg, Youtube decided that I would like Amyl and the Sniffers. And you know what…I don’t think they’re totally wrong. This song is basically everything The Chats is, but with a female lead. Speaking of similarities to The Chats, Amyl and the Sniffers’ front woman is rocking an insane mullet. But anyway, I quite liked the song, and more specifically the lyrics, but as a fellow Youtube commenter stated: “[this is the] angriest song about a trip to the seaside ever.” Despite the angry sounding vocals, the guitar riff in this song is so catchy and I freaking love it! Keep an eye out for a full album review at some point in the future.
