New music! I’ve finally allotted myself a few car rides to pop in two new CDs (you read that right) and listen to them all the way through. And let’s just say that Dreamers and Two Door Cinema Club’s latest releases made me so happy! I love good music.
Dreamers’ Launch Fly Land was first on my list and being a longtime fan, this album’s release came as a bit of a surprise to me. I felt like it hadn’t been that long since their full-length debut, This Album Doesn’t Exist, but apparently I have no concept of time since that was three years ago. Either way, this album presented 10 fast paced and solid tracks, which I’d prefer over slow jams most of the time. There were some corny and a little cringe-worthy lyrics on “Celebrate,” but “Dizzy” and “Die Happy” definitely make up for it! I’d say if you’ve enjoyed any of their prior singles, like “Drugs” and “Wolves (You Got Me),” then you’ll definitely enjoy the evolution Dreamers present here.
Next up was Two Door Cinema Club’s False Alarm. Another three-year gap separated this release from their last, and I was ready for it! The lead song off the new album, “Once,” seemed a bit subdued, but I thought it was a nice introduction to an album generally speaking. The next track, and lead single, “Talk,” could have come straight from their last record, Gameshow, and I thought it was brilliant! It definitely had that classic Two Door Cinema Club sound with high-pitched, intricate guitars mixed with singer Alex Trimble’s falsetto vocals. Unfortunately, for me, the rest of the album just couldn’t deliver. Everything was a bit slow and a bit muffled. When you start off your career with the amazing Tourist History, you really need to step it up on future records. Looking back at their second and third albums respectively, they haven’t quite gotten back to the level of their debut effort. I still like them, and I pray they come my way so I can see them live!
