I wasn’t expecting there to be this much new music so soon! I know Blink 182 fans all around the world were probably screaming with anticipation when they found out there was not one, but two new singles. It was a good mix this time around.
Dogstar
“Glimmer” – I have really got to start preparing myself better for this concert – it’s in two weeks! Yes, I am more of a celebrity fan than a fan of this band, for now, but there’s not that much material to choose from. The last bit of music these guys made was 20 years ago and the new record fully drops on the night I see them. So who knows, maybe we’ll get another new single in the meantime, but based on this one compared to the first, I have no idea what to expect! This song did almost a full 180 compared to “Breach,” and while this one took me a hot minute to get used to it, I dug it. I don’t know right now if I’ll enjoy it in a live setting, but I better, because I’d almost guarantee I’ll hear it.
Blink 182
“One More Time” – Truthfully, I am not the world’s biggest Blink 182 fan. Yes, I like a lot of the singles that they released over the years, but I have never listened to anything from them in full. This new single, off a new album coming out the weekend I’ll be seeing them for the first time, is really trying to get you in the feels. I saw a lot of people saying they sobbed to this, and I get it! It’s a bit reminiscent of “I Miss You” but pays full attention to the road that these guys have been through over the years, and finding their way back to each other. It doesn’t give Barker much to do, but that just shows the versatility of these guys. Not my favorite, but I appreciate the sentiment.
Blink182
“More Than You Know” – Now this other new single is it for me! It picks up the pace, which is generally what I’m used to hearing from these guys. With that being said, it really does sound quite different from anything I recall from their past, but it reminds me of a lot of other things I would have heard from that time. So it’s kind of like a time capsule to the early 2000s, and you know I’m always here for that. This single also makes better use of the duel vocals as well as really letting Barker rip it on the drums. I would like more of this from the new record, for sure.
AWOLNATION
“Candy Pop” – I can’t believe how much time has passed since these guys released their cover album! Regardless, it feels like it’s way too soon to be getting new music from them, and yet, an EP is on the way before the end of the year! Straight out of the gate this song reminded me a lot of a Joywave song, but I’m okay with it! It’s delightfully odd, which is when I find they are at their best. It’s groovy, with a fast-paced beat, angelic chorus, quirky verses, and a killer outro! If the rest of the EP is like this, then I can’t wait!
