More new music with a bit of an eclectic flair.
Inhaler
“These are the Days” – It’s been a hot minute since I’ve listened to Inhaler, and I still haven’t listened to their debut album, but this new single is certainly inspiring me to! Straight off the bat I was so surprised with how much Elijah sounds like his dad, Bono, on this song. It’s uncanny, and if you didn’t know that before I don’t know how you couldn’t hear it now. This song was insanely catchy and rock heavy just like the rest of the stuff they’ve put out there. I’m a fan and can’t wait to listen to the album (finally).
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
“Spitting Off the Edge of the World” – I have a few songs from Yeah Yeah Yeahs in rotation, but I never really delve too much deeper into their stuff. However, with a title like this, how could I not check it out?! This song had some real grit to it while giving off a really specific old school vibe. Overall I really liked the flow of this song and I thought Perfume Genius was a really cool and complimentary addition to the song. Who knows, maybe I’ll take a listen into their back catalog.
Hoodie Allen
“Call Me Never” – Hoodie is rolling full steam ahead! I enjoyed this so much more than the first single and it’s giving me hope for the upcoming record. This song was decidedly no rap at all and I wonder if he’s fully done with that. Not that I’d mind, as this genre seems to suit him well. And by genre, I mean throwback pop punk. That’s totally the vibe and he’s killing it. If you have any love for the early 2000s, then check this song out!
Slipknot
“The Dying Song (Time to Sing)” – Holy cow was this catchy! I’m shocked at how soon these guys have released new music. In fact, I think this is the quickest turnaround for them in some time. Actually, it’s been such a short amount of time that the band are all sporting the same masks! If this is a sign of things to come off the new record due out this fall, then it’s going to be pretty great.
Anberlin
“Circles” – I actually heard this new song as a live debut a few days ago! It’s one of two singles released from their upcoming EP due out at the end of the month. This song, both recorded and live, gave off a creeping darkness that slowly added on more complex layers as it went along. Along with the layers, they managed to get some really sick swells to ebb in and out, but ultimately the song ended with a bang and I’m now really looking forward to this EP.
“Two Graves” – Remember how I said “Circles” was pretty damn good? Well, this song is just as freaking awesome! I think this might be the heaviest sounding song I’ve ever heard from these guys. Honestly, it could knock a lot of the songs I hear on heavy metal radio stations on their asses. This song is strong and intense and just epic! It’s something totally new for them, but still managing to put that Anberlin stamp on it. Again, so excited for this upcoming EP.
