More new music, but a bit more on the heavier side this time.
The Killers
“Boy” – Well, I feel like The Killers have been slyly releasing a lot of new music as of late and I’ve been doing a terrible job of keeping up with it. That definitely needs to change given that I’m going to be seeing them this fall on tour. Why not start with a brand new single then?! At the very start of this track I was reminded of “Human,” but then it took off and morphed into its own thing. I liked the sound progression in this song, but it will ultimately need a few more listens before it makes any playlist of mine.
Armor for Sleep
“Whatever, Who Cares” – The fact that these guys are officially back together again makes me so freaking happy every time I think about it. I love this emo resurgence that is happening – my middle school self is thriving right now. In the run-up to their first album in fifteen years, they’ve released another new single. Straight off the bat I like this much more than the first single. Similar to it though, it has hints of nostalgia for their old sound, but this just came together a little better for me. There was also a music video for this song, shot in the same deliberate style from the first, and I’ve come to find that it’s really neat looking! Go check it, and the song, out now!
Bullet for My Valentine
“No More Tears to Cry” – Evidently, this was a track off the deluxe edition of their 2021 self-titled album. Not a bonus track…just an additional one. Either way, the deluxe edition just came out this month, so it still counts as new music. From the title alone, I have no clue if this song ties into Tears Don’t Fall parts one and two, but it would kind of make sense if it did. This song did however, sound like it belonged off their self-titled album, but I don’t know if that’s a good thing. There were parts that were great and others that were mediocre, which ultimately just made this a forgettable single.
Slipknot
“Yen” – My sister always gets amped for new Slipknot, but given how quickly this record is coming together after their last release, I can’t really blame her. However, this is unlike most of what I’ve heard from the band in the past. By comparison, this is probably the softest song I’ve ever heard from them. It’s also maybe more singing than I’ve ever heard. Truthfully, I think if I played this to my friends, I don’t know that they’d ever guess this was a Slipknot song. I love that they have that range! Overall though, this was a very good song, and I’m looking forward to more.
