Since The Queen’s Gambit came out a couple months ago, I have yet to see a bad or even somewhat disappointed review for it. Now I understand why! This was one of the strongest series I’ve ever watched and it was something I know next to nothing about: chess! This, coupled with Ted Lasso, proves that if a show is written and acted really well, then it doesn’t matter how seemingly boring your subject matter is. If you would have told me at the start of the year that the best fictionalized television I would watch was about soccer and chess I would have laughed in your face. They have proven me wrong.

I think it’s no big reveal that I’ve been obsessing over Arcade Fire for most of quarantine. In honor of that of course I decided to draw the whole band for the first time in almost ten years! Their album Reflector has really been my jam this past month, so I’m glad I found this to draw! Again, can’t wait for new music and hopefully the chance to see them live soon.

I’ve only recently been able to enjoy what HBO Max has to offer, but so far it has not been disappointing! Yes, I missed the initial run of this superstar miniseries, The Undoing, when it first premiered on HBO, but I’m really not that far off the rest of the world so kudos to me. The six episodes had me guessing, and that made for a very entertaining ride.

Wow! The Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver might be one of the best books I’ve read this year! It had me guessing until the big reveal, but the drama had me hooked from the start.

Two of my favorite bands released new music the past couple weeks and I’m here for it! Neither Bastille nor Foster the People have put out a full length record for quite a few years, so I’m at least thankful to the pandemic for getting me some new tunes from them!

As I mentioned with my last movie review, I recently became a member of Film Independent, which features a lot of independent films. Those are usually the Oscars’ favorites, and they’re mine, too! It’s sort of crazy the amount of content that’s available for Film Independent members, and you’ll definitely catch me taking advantage of it. That being said, most of these films are available to me before they are to the general public, so I’ll keep these reviews as spoiler free as I can!

There were some brand new films this week, some insufferable ones, and even some from HBO Max this weekend! Let’s dive in!
Read moreCobra Kai Season 2 Review
I stretched the second season of Cobra Kai out a little bit compared to the first, but it was no less exciting or awesome! The second season essentially picks up right were the first season left off, with Kresse showing up at Johnny’s Cobra Kai dojo and Sam joining Miyagi-Do. Where this season ends is really crazy, so I’m glad I don’t have much of a wait for the third season to premiere on Netflix!
Read moreBook Review: There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
Ever since I heard that Stephanie Perkins’ novel, There’s Someone Inside Your House, was getting adapted into a film at Netflix, I’ve been itching to get my hands on it. Despite it being a young adult novel, the premise (and the title, come on) sounded perfectly creepy and right up my alley! And it was! This delivered both the spooks and the gore and I hope they really commit in the adaptation.

I’m sure you are all feeling a sense of deja vu with Hannibal being called out as the fan art this week, but I have a good reason to keep drawing stuff for this amazing show! It’s because the fandom is equally amazing! Twitter is where I’ve found most of them, and they post about Hannibal daily. Also, they are very kind. For the month of December there has been a gift exchange occurring between all of the “fannibals.” I’ve received some cool stuff, the coolest of which was an authenticated prop from the show (my sister can vouch for the intense squeal that left my body)! In what I’ve sent out, I included a little mini-drawing in each, so that’s what you’re seeing below.
