Roswell, New Mexico Review

As my Fan Art Friday post prepared you for, Roswell, New Mexico was back on last night after a long year off, and I was so excited to watch! It also did not disappoint in the slightest. As one fan stated online, “this hour always seems to go by so fast!” Agreed.

The premiere episode of this second season picked up right where season one ended: with Rosa’s resurrection and Max’s death. And no “got ya” was pulled on the audience. Max is really dead, and Rosa is still really alive. And as Kyle figures out, completely healthy, like before drugs destroyed her insides healthy. Isobel can seem to wrap her head around Max’s death, so she’s got his body in a pod hoping against all hope that someday they can bring him back. Not with a shredded heart, according to Michael.

Speaking of Michael, he’s an alcoholic mess who’s looking for pain. So with that, he tells Alex that they are bad for each other and seemingly ends that relationship for good, while he also sabotages the connection he made with Maria. And I always forget that Maria seems to be the only one who knows nothing about the aliens and whatever the heck else has been going on in Roswell. Even her sick mother knows something is up, but she gets abducted by episode’s end, so I’m sure Maria’s ignorance will end sooner rather than later.

Despite losing Max, Liz is putting on a brave and “happy” face to the world. Of course she’s thrilled to have Rosa back in her life, but she’s not fooling her (now younger) sister. Also evidenced by the sobbing in the shower. Rosa, who understandably was hella confused about where the last ten years of her life have gone, gets the crash-course on all things alien in Roswell and seems pretty okay with it. The only real issue she seems to be grappling with is nightmares featuring last season’s big bad, Noah. She has no clue who he is, but Liz connects the dots that Max’s subconscious is connected to Rosa through the iridescent hand print on her chest.

Aside from Rosa, Noah also seems to be haunting Isobel all day, every day. And we horrifically find out that’s because she’s pregnant with Noah’s baby. That’s big revelation number one. The second revelation of the night comes from Max finally making contact with Rosa, telling her to stop Liz from reviving him. My gut tells me she’s going to do it anyways, and I’m ready to see what those consequences are! It was a long nine months for this show to come back, and that hour just passes by so quickly! And I can’t imagine these next few weeks in quarantine are going to pass by any quicker, so I’ll just have to distract myself with other things before next week’s episode airs!
