It’s the end of the road for Roswell, New Mexico‘s second season. Remember how I outlined all of those pretty intense cliffhangers from last week’s episode, thinking that an hour might not be enough to tie them all up?! Turns out they could be tied up in five minutes, all before the title card showed. Good grief!
So, yes, Liz saved the carnival-goers (with Isobel’s help), Rosa saved Max, Helene saved Charlie, Jenna saved Maria, Kyle saved Flint, and Gregory ultimately saved Alex and Michael. The only casualty of the night came from that of one Jesse Manes. Good riddance. With all of that out of the way so quickly, I was seriously worried with how they were going to fill the hour.
Turns out with a lot more stuff! Alex and Michael destroy that old shed, where they find Tripp Manes’ body and journal, Maria dumps Michael, Max destroys Liz’s lab from Diego and some other scientist lady’s prying eyes, and Rosa decides to head back to rehab after all. Liz also decides to head to California! Max’s betrayal makes that decision a little easier, I think. She also manages to mess with Steph’s blood disease and seemingly saves Kyle’s girlfriend for the time being. Speaking of love, Alex sings this beautiful song, but Michael tells Isobel they’re meant to be, just not right now. Gah! Why?!
The season ends with the pod-squad meeting Max in the middle of the desert. He tells them that with Liz’s antidote, he was finally able to decode some foreign whispers he heard when he touched the console in last week’s episode. They all dig a tunnel and find someone locked up. When they unlock it, it turns out to be Max’s doppelganger?! It was a little meh, but I’ll be interested to see what the narrative looks like for season three. So many things were glossed over so quickly this season, that it’d be nice to see something fleshed-out for an entire 13-episode set. Stay weird, aliens, and see you next season!
