In one short week I’ve breezed through quite a bit of television. Whole seasons, in fact! Rather than scour through the details, I figured I’d spare you and just sum them each up as best I can.
Quiz – This three-part BBC miniseries centers on the true crime event that shocked Great Britain in 2001. After having established their popular game show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the latest millionaire winner, Major Charles Ingram, is accused of cheating. What sounds like something that could be intensely boring is actually quite interesting. Also, the show spends half it’s time convincing you that he, along with his wife and brother-in-law totally did cheat, but then the other half plants as many seeds of doubt as one person can handle! Even after reading some supplemental material on it afterwards, I still have no clue if they actually cheated or not!
Run – Almost equally as short as Quiz, Run is a six-part HBO miniseries that follows a former couple, Billy and Ruby, who meet up at Grand Central Station after texting “run” to each other, which fulfills some college pact the two had made many, many years ago. It’s fast and fun and flirty, but it’s also laced with insecurity, deceit, and ultimately disappointment. Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever’s chemistry is so great that I would have loved to have seen a different ending. Phoebe Waller-Bridge also makes a quirky cameo appearance in a few episodes.
Love, Victor – Remember that cute 2018 adaption of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Love, Simon that came out? Well, they took that movie, added some new faces and tweaked it into a television show! Although, this version is a little less tidy. But only a little. Sure, Victor’s family life is a little more tumultuous, since his Latin family is very religious and originally from Texas. Also, his parents are going through their own conflict. Victor thinks he may be gay and reaches out to Simon for advice, but he soon falls into a relationship with the very adorable and cute Mia, but he also has it bad for Benji. Definitely some frustrating moments, but I wasn’t really looking for anything too complex to watch. If you enjoyed the movie, certainly add this to your watch-list.
