I didn’t think it was possible, but this was perhaps my favorite season of Servant so far!
Now that Leanne has disposed of Aunt May’s body (behind the wall in her room), she is increasingly paranoid that the cult will come for her. She’s develops a type of agoraphobia because of it, and a growing attachment to the Turner family. She still wants to continue her relationship with Julian, Sean seems to totally trust her now, and she almost desperately sees Dorothy as her own mother. Eventually, Leanne lets her guard down enough to enjoy a block party but it attacked by two cult members. It appears she was able to kill them off, and afterwards learns that local homeless teens are also defectors of her very own church. They come to worship Leanne now and she feeds off this new power.
She’s also completely turned away from her faith after this incident, taking matters into her own hands and succumbing to pleasures she couldn’t previously indulge in. With this, I started to sense unease and even more darkness descend on the Turner household. It’s also during this time that Dorothy removes her rose colored glasses. While she’s still not aware of Jericho’s death by the end of the season, she is distressed about not remembering when Sean was on a reality cooking show about a year prior. Of course, that was when Jericho died, but no one in the house tries to let Dorothy know what really happened. Instead, she becomes convinced that Leanne is the cause of all of their hysteria. And while yes, Leanne is kind of to blame, she’s also the reason there’s a living child there at all.
She proves this when Dorothy is about to send Leanne away to a dance camp. She makes Jericho disappear, but when Sean and Julian invite her back, Jericho is, too. Dorothy allows her to stay, but it plotting on how to get rid of Leanne for good. If only Dorothy had a grasp on how powerful Leanne actually is. Episode 8 of the season, “Donut,” is quite the shocker and even further proof that Leanne’s defection from the church is turning her power towards evil. At least, this is what Uncle George is fully convinced of. Yep. He shows up at the end, and I’ll be interested to see how many more people from the cult get involved and if Leanne is truly deserving of being taken down. Yes, her measures are extreme, but it’s seems like all she really wants is love and to be a part of this family.
Without giving it away, let’s just say that this season’s finale was even more bonkers than the eighth episode, but you’ll just have to watch to find out! I’m sure I too have said this about the first two seasons, but I approached this show very warily, but it’s the perfect blend of suspense and intrigue and true realistic horror to reel you in from the start. I found myself each episode this season impatiently anticipating each week’s episode because I just wanted to know what was going to happen next. If you’ve got Apple+, definitely check this out!
