Shazam! The Fun DC Movie We Needed

As far as DC and Marvel films go, I haven’t really been disappointed in any of them. I know, as someone who watches and reviews movies, I should have higher standards for these films, but I just don’t go in with high expectations. Sure, some are better than others, but I’ve never truly been bummed watching them. I also know DC’s track record is pretty rough…Wonder Woman is the only critically acclaimed film on their roster.

Shazam! sought out to flip the dark DC film niche on its head and it succeeded! Like really well! I went into this knowing it was going to be a little goofy considering it focuses on a teenager harnessing the power of a “council of wizards,” but I was pleasantly surprised with how funny it was! The graphics were also much better than Justice League’s in my opinion.

Overall, the plot was pretty solid, and the actors just knocked that content out of the park! Zachary Levi (Chuck), basically a kid in his own right, was excellent as superhero Billy Batson, and Jack Dylan Grazer as his foster brother/side kick was also full of fantastically delivered one-liners. And Mark Strong always makes a great villain!

It’s PG-13 rating means the dialogue isn’t always family friendly, but that’s no fun anyways. If you want to really enjoy yourself without being stressed out (*cough* End Game *cough*), then definitely head to the theater for this flick!
