It’s so hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that there are now three seasons of Shorsey. I feel like I just barely got my hands around Letterkenny these past couple of years, but here we are.
Just like Letterkenny, Shorsey has its own cadence that I think I’ve only now be able to properly process. I’m sure I wasn’t on board with the first few seasons of Letterkenny either, but now that I’ve got some of the vernacular and speed down, plus just another season with these characters, I’ve found this one to be my favorite yet! At just barely over twenty minutes apiece, I know you probably think it’s hard to connect with characters over the course of just six episodes, but that’s what talent can accomplish. Sure, Shoresy could be heard quipping throughout most of Letterkenny’s run, but this puts a face to the name. And a bunch of other stuff.
This time around, we meet the boys just after their big no-loss season only to lose the championship game. That was a huge bummer, but it didn’t stop them from some hard-partying after their win streak. There were some still frames peppered into every episode this season to the most ridiculous tune from that event that made me laugh every time. It’s no surprise then that the episode that finally reveals what went down at that infamous party was my favorite of the season. It had me laughing so hard and at times blushing like an idiot. Either way, that was some peak comedy.
Instead of wallowing in their loss, they still earned their place in the National Senior Tournament, but most of the season is spent trying to figure out if they can still pull wins when there is only one uninjured guy on their team. Shoresy isn’t the best player anymore, but as Nat continuously reminds us, “he always contributes.” Sometimes that’s not always enough, and by the end of the season Shoresy is forced to face the facts that he’s maybe too old for senior “whale-shit” hockey. Think of telling the most stubborn person you know that they can’t do something anymore and that is what Shoresy is like. He eventually does come to terms with his future, but Nat has other plans for him.
That’s all I really want to say about the season since it’s so brief, but just know that the banter is top-tier, along with the laughs. I think they included genuine blooper material at the start of one episode and I’m so glad they kept it in. As a bit of a spoiler, the end of the season was marked as the end of “part 1,” so Canada better be giving us more!
