Sadly, earlier this year, Netflix announced that part four the dark supernatural show, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, would be its last. What a freaking bummer! I was a little nervous because they had filmed parts three and four simultaneously, so I wasn’t sure if it was going to get a good ending. No one likes a cliffhanger that will never get resolved! After finishing the eight episodes the other day, I was quite pleased with what went down. I’ll try to be a non-spoilery as possible going forward, so let’s go witches!

This book was more than I expected and that’s because the film served it justice. FX on Hulu’s A Teacher, is a drama adapted from a movie of the same name, but starring a few more recognizable names and the ability to flesh the story out a bit more. I think this would have to be every filmmakers dream. Getting to tell a story that you’re passionate about in two different channels has to feel good. There were also enough years separating the two that creator, Hannah Fidell, could take the time to figure out parts she wanted to explore more deeply, or add more fine details to certain scenes.

Ever since I heard that Stephanie Perkins’ novel, There’s Someone Inside Your House, was getting adapted into a film at Netflix, I’ve been itching to get my hands on it. Despite it being a young adult novel, the premise (and the title, come on) sounded perfectly creepy and right up my alley! And it was! This delivered both the spooks and the gore and I hope they really commit in the adaptation.

Back in 2018, Jeff VanderMeer’s sci-fi horror novel, Annihilation, got the Hollywood treatment and was adapted into a pretty well-received feature film. It also starred the likes of Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It looked rather intriguing, but also like it might scare the poo out of me. So I skipped it. Recently, I’ve been seeing the title pop up on Hulu and I’ve been tempted to play it some nights, but I decided to give it The Haunting at Hill House treatment and read the novel first.

Since I’ve been burned this year by reading before watching, I decided to finally follow my old advice and read the book after I’ve watched the show. This is crucial! Personally, I am never disappointed by a book whenever I read it, but I am always disappointed by a show or film if I’ve watched it after reading. There is just no way for them to capture all the details that make a novel special.
