AFI Bodies Album Review

More than a week has passed, which means I’ve been given ample time to listen through AFI’s 11th full-length album, Bodies, to fully appreciate its awesomeness. Not that I really ever had any doubts. And even though I was able to experience over half of this new release in the form of singles in the months leading up to the full release, there was still so much to enjoy cohesively about this record.

Death From Above 1979 – Is 4 Lovers Album Review

I know a couple months ago I told you all about Death From Above 1979’s newest single, “One + One,” but evidently I didn’t think to look any further into new music from this group. I’m a fool! It’s been out for two month’s now! To make up for it, I ordered some merch along with the album. Now, let’s get down to reviewing Is 4 Lovers.

Twenty One Pilots – Scaled and Icy Album Review

It really doesn’t feel like that much time has passed since Twenty One Pilots’ last album, Trench, came out but then again, 2020 was a bit of a blur. Indeed, it has been three years since that release, so of course quarantining in a pandemic spawned the duo’s latest effort, Scaled and Icy. While a lot of the content on here is new territory for the band, there does seem to be a fair bit of throwback in it, too. Let’s dive in!

Album Review: Foxy Shazam – Burn

I am a fool! It’s been way too long for me to not have realized that the recently reunited Foxy Shazam had put out a new album in December! Burn is the first release from the band since their hiatus in 2015, and I really should have been more on top of this. The only thing I really saw anything about was a reunion show that got cancelled twice ( because, you know, pandemic) and the release of the single “Burn.” Well, better late than never I suppose! Burn was a delight to listen to all the way through, and now I really can’t wait for this pandemic to be over so I can see them live again!

Concert Review: Bad Suns

Another month in quarantine, another concert from my living room. That’s right, a whole year has passed and there is still no sign of live music on the horizon. So in the meantime, I am trying my best to support artists I like and get some version of “live” music via livestream concerts. I will say, I was very excited when after several months, Bad Suns announced they would be playing their sophomore effort, Disappear Here in its entirety!

Concert Review: Silverstein – Greatest Hits

Since the month of Avatar is over and it’s clear there will still be no live shows anytime soon, I decided to scour the internet to see if any of my other favorite bands were streaming shows. I was in luck to find out that Silverstein we’re doing something a little bit similar to Avatar in that they will be putting on three different shows for the rest of the Saturdays in February as part of their Out of This World Concert Series. Yay me! One that stood out the most to me from this trio was the very first option, Greatest Hits. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been listening to Silverstein for a very long time, but this just seemed like the best way to hear all of my favorites at once.

The Used – Heartwork Album Review

Th Used’s latest release, Heartwork, was an immense improvement from the train wreck that was The 1975’s latest record, so that’s a great place to be. It also is sort of a return to form for the band after the more experimental turn they took on The Canyon. Not that I disliked that album at all, but it’s a nice dose of nostalgia when a band from your formative years of music go back to the old style.

Album Review: The 1975 – Notes on a Conditional Form

I was taking stock of my CD collection the other day and came to the realization that I hadn’t yet taken the time to listen to The 1975’s latest release, Notes on a Conditional Form, which hit shelves this past May after some delay. Yes, originally this album was to serve as sort of a sister album to A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships and be released last year, but got delayed almost a whole year after the fact.

Concert Review: Anberlin – Cities Livestream

In an effort to get back to something resembling a concert, and supporting artists as best I can, Friday evening I sidled up to my laptop to watch Anberlin perform their album Cities in its entirety. Was it my favorite thing? No. Was the music good? Absolutely. This was my first livestream concert, so keep reading to catch my thoughts on the experience!

Concert Throwback: Declan McKenna

Since I just reviewed Declan McKenna’s newest musical release, Zeroes, I figured I’d throw it back to the time I got to see him live! And at an incredibly tiny, local venue for that matter! Bliss. This guy is a true talent for his youth and I enjoyed every second of the performance. Even my friend who I dragged along with me had a great time! Once we’re out of this quarantine hell, go catch him in concert!
