You know, I’ve owned the first season of True Detective since it was released and I’ve still never watched the whole thing. I know it’s the best season out there, and it was basically at the very beginning of the reintroduction of the “golden age of television,” but I just haven’t mustered the desire to finish it yet. And for whatever reason, two bad seasons later I decided to tune in for Night Country.

Fargo – Season 5 Review
It’s been three years since we got a new season of Fargo, and judging by how the fourth season went over, I wasn’t sure that we’d actually ever get another one. It seems time heals all wounds though, and Hawley came back with one of the strongest seasons yet!

Freaking AMPTP! I feel like there has been absolutely no hype for the second season of the insanely creative mystery-comedy, The Afterparty, and that’s because none of the major studios can decide to pay people a living wage! There were a small handful of interviews that squeaked out in time, but I would have loved to have seen some of the amazing stars this season get the chance to market the show.

I hustled to watch all of the second season of The White Lotus just before the finale aired. This show continues to impress!

At this point, I’m not sure if this quirky anthology series will be picked up for a second season, but even if it doesn’t, Roar still had a very strong first outing.

Yes, voting for the Independent Spirit Awards starts this weekend, and no, I still haven’t watched Blue Bayou or Drive My Car. I just haven’t managed to be in the right mindset for a serious drama and a three hour saga (regardless of how well it’s been reviewed). Lately, I’ve been trying to go for quantity, not necessarily quality, but I do plan to squeeze the two in before this weekend rolls around. Instead, I watched a bunch of stuff on Hulu!

I was just preparing myself to see Jon Bernthal at a local comic con when a trailer for BJ Novak’s The Premise came out. I saw Jon Bernthal pop his head in and that was all the convincing I needed. Not only that, but there were only five half hour episodes making up this anthology series, so I knew it wasn’t going to be a huge time commitment either. The results were bizarre, but the social commentary was like a blinding light, making me laugh quite a bit.

After my severe love of Ted Lasso, I learned that one of the stars and writers, Brett Goldstein, had another show premiering on AMC and I was pretty much all in! Add to the fact that Soulmates touted stars such as Sarah Snook and Bill Skarsgaard as part of its cast and I was even more sold. That it was also an anthology made it even more intriguing.

Last year after watching Dirty John, I was under the impression that this well crafted dramatization of a real-life con artist and killer was going to be a limited series, and it had run its course. Garnering a handful of well-deserved nominations (Connie Britton was fabulous), I figured it was a job well done and a nice closing of a chapter. But I was wrong! Turns out they are going to possibly take many Lifetime-esque stories and expand them into series that are a little more polished than that network usually provides. Although, similar to You, Dirty John did undergo a network change from Bravo to USA, which was only mildly confusing. I also think the creators of this show didn’t think there’d be another season, because they kept the show’s original name then tacked on the new twisted tale’s tagline. Strange, but not unheard of I suppose. But I do think that gives it more of a Lifetime feel.
