It’s that time again – new music! Several bands have put out new tracks recently, and I thought it best to let you know my opinion on them. Let’s dive in!

Concert Review: Avatar – Age of Memories
Talk about a throwback! This last installment of Avatar’s Impossible Concert Experience threw us all the way back to the beginning stages of the band’s existence. Thus the name, Age of Memories. What was neat about this last leg is that almost the entire set list hadn’t been played in a live capacity for almost a decade! In fact, newest band member Tim (as of 2011) hadn’t played any of these before! That’s crazy.

Last night’s entry into Avatar’s Impossible Concert Experience was Age of Madness, and it was probably the most hardcore experience yet! I say that because the two records that were performed for this installment were from Hail the Apocalypse and Black Waltz. These are definitely two of their darker albums, and there is a lot more screaming involved than any of their other releases. This also makes sense as to why this was my sister’s favorite of the shows so far.

The second weekend of Avatar’s Impossible Concert Experience was almost as impressive as the first! I mean, you have to start off strong with brand new live content and then follow that up with a “best of” set. Naturally, like almost every sophomore effort, Age of Illusions, was somewhat disappointing. For me, anyways. I’m less familiar with their catalog than my sister, so she had a hell of a time!

Still no live shows for the time being, so the Swedish heavy-metal band, Avatar, has decided to take a really creative route for the live-stream concert experience. For each weekend in January, the band will be putting on a concert, each with its own unique title. This week’s was the Age of Dreams, while the next three weekends we can enjoy Age of Illusions, Age of Madness, and Age of Memories. Collectively, the band is referring to all of this as “An Impossible Concert Experience.”

It’s hard to believe how many times I’ve seen Avatar in concert without drawing them. Until this year that is! Yes, I did a very rare colored drawing of the entire band earlier this year, but this recent magazine cover caught my eye and immediately knew I had to draw it. Back to my standard black pen drawings, but it looks pretty darn cool. Also, this could totally be in honor of the four part concert stream the band has going on in January!

In honor of Avatar’s new release last, Hunter Gatherer, I thought it was fitting to revisit the drawing I did of the band late last year. Not only because it was my first time drawing the Swedish heavy metal band, but it was also one of the rare instances in the past decade where I’ve drawn something using color! And not pens! It was truly a record for the books. Anyways, expect an album review sometime this weekend, but in the meantime, enjoy this drawing!

Man, already setting a bad precedent in the new year, but I’ve got 51 weeks to go (I’ll make it up to you, I promise). Anyways, here it is again, my last drawing of 2019, the Swedish heavy metal band, Avatar (established well before James Cameron’s movie).

It’s been a minute since I’ve written last, but for good reason! This past weekend my sister and I went to the inaugural Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival (FKA Rock on the Range) down in Columbus! It was a blast!
