Ah, all the new movies! And some old favorites, too! Here’s what I was able to watch this weekend and what’s worth your time.

Special – Season 2 Review (Final Season)
Ugh! I feel like eons have passed since the first season of this delightful comedy aired, and now I learn this is the only other season I’ll ever get of Special?! Not cool. But, I mean…it is cool there are new episodes to be had. Brilliant in it’s own unique way, Special follows Ryan, a gay man with mild cerebral palsy and how he navigates life professionally and personally.

I love me a good subtitled movie, so there’s no doubt that I would love a subtitled show! Los Espookys is primarily a Spanish series about a group of friends just out trying to scare people.

Ever since watching Jonathan Groff in Glee, he’s always been on my radar, but I had never really given any of his other stand-out projects a chance. Now, I don’t know that I will ever watch Hamilton or Frozen (just not a fan of musicals or kids movies), but I did want to check out his critically acclaimed show, Looking, while I still had the chance. Unfortunately, despite it’s great reviews, the viewership was low enough that it got cancelled after two seasons, although HBO was gracious enough to let them tie up their story with a movie. So I watched it all!

I know almost two weeks have already passed since the second season of Love, Victor dropped on Hulu June, 11, but I promise I watched all of it the weekend it came out! Watching all ten episodes over the course of three days was certainly not the plan, but it was just so darn good I couldn’t help myself! There’s love, betrayal, and a serious cliffhanger, so let’s get into it!

In the midst of one film festival, I have managed to stumble across another virtual film festival! Well, similar to Tribeca, this queer film fest is also doing a hybrid of in person and at home screenings, which works out just fine for me! While I only picked out a handful of films from this event, they were ones that were on my radar from other foreign screenings earlier this year. I’m so glad I got the chance to participate!

As the world slowly starts to open back up, that means far away film festivals will once again become inaccessible to me unless I’m willing to travel and drop a lot of cash. Which, I’m not saying it’ll never happy, but for now I’m still glad to be offered a chance to partake in these awesome festivals from the comfort of my own home! Case in point: the Tribeca Film Festival! This is the first United States film festival that is taking place in person since the pandemic started, but they are still offering at home viewings of almost everything (except for No Sudden Move which I’m upset about). This festival takes place over the course of two weeks, so I’m splitting up my haul between the two, so here’s the first batch!

I believe Jean Smart just knocks anything she’s in out of the park, and this HBO Max original comedy is no exception. Coming strong off the heels as the matriarch of Mare of Easttown, Hacks is decidedly quite opposite in terms of subject matter, but don’t be fooled into thinking there are no serious moments in this series.

I’m burning through Silicon Valley, so I figured I’d give a light recap of the latest two seasons I watched! This show continues to deliver on laugh out load moments almost too frequent to count, so in my eyes, this comedy is gold.

That’s right, all new movies this weekend! I paid a visit to a theater, checked some out video on demand, and even got to watch a couple from the Milwaukee Film Festival! All were very unique in their own way, and I consider that quite a success!
