There were some brand new films this week, some insufferable ones, and even some from HBO Max this weekend! Let’s dive in!

Book Review: There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins
Ever since I heard that Stephanie Perkins’ novel, There’s Someone Inside Your House, was getting adapted into a film at Netflix, I’ve been itching to get my hands on it. Despite it being a young adult novel, the premise (and the title, come on) sounded perfectly creepy and right up my alley! And it was! This delivered both the spooks and the gore and I hope they really commit in the adaptation.

A couple of weeks ago, FX premiered an excellent British drama called Black Narcissus, and I was hooked from the start. I was actually quite sad that it was only three parts. In an interesting move on FX’s part, all three episodes aired back to back. I didn’t watch these live, so it had no impact on me, but I still thought it was an interesting move.

That’s right, two times the book reviews! Mainly because I read and finished two books simultaneously this week. That usually doesn’t happen, so for this rare occasion I will give my thoughts at the same time! They were two fairly different stories. One was a romantic drama, where two very different people work though in their own way why their relationship isn’t working. The other was a thriller about a woman feeling like her life is getting turned upside down when she learns secrets about her late husband and her current husband!

After stuffing my face with turkey (quarantined at my house), I made sure I left tons of time over the holiday weekend to watch as many movies as I could manage! Here they are, neatly reviewed for you.

Some new, some old, some new to me…a cornucopia of films this weekend! I’d say I’ve primed myself nicely for this holiday weekend’s viewing standards.

Unlike October, I have totally been slacking this month! Last week I didn’t watch a single film and this week I only got three in before my internet crapped out on me. A disappointing turn of events, but there is still time (and a holiday weekend) to catch up! Also, a fun fact about this trio of movies – they were all only an hour and a half! I love a good movie that can get their point across without dragging it past the two hour mark. It’s just not necessary sometimes and I think more filmmakers need to take note.

It’s been a short while since I watched Apple +’s adaptation of Defending Jacob, a novel written by William Landay. Since I’ve been burned this year by reading before watching, I decided to finally follow my old advice and read the book after I’ve watched the show. This is crucial! Personally, I am never disappointed by a book whenever I read it, but I am always disappointed by a show or film if I’ve watched it after reading. There is just no way for them to capture all the details that make a novel special.

Alright, now that we are just a tick past the half way mark of the latest installment of Fargo, I am sort of losing my patience with a little bit of what’s going down. I’ll explain, but perhaps my recap will explain it anyways.

Since Halloween was this weekend, I tried to keep my film choices in that vain. And I would say for the most part I did that! They were creepy, gory, and at the very least mentioned the holiday.
