The Boys – Season 2, Episode 7

So many exploding heads! Or crushed heads? I’m still convinced that the escapee from last week’s hospital encounter is behind this somehow. And come on, from a show like The Boys, does exploding heads really seem like that big of a surprise? Well, it shouldn’t if you’ve been watching.

This week sees the boys split up into teams, which means that Kimiko and Frenchie are keeping watch over a political leader until she’s able to make her case against Vought in court, and MM and Mallory are off to convince Homelander’s old handler, so to speak, to also testify against Vought. I imagine Butcher would have rather participated instead of getting ambushed by his parents, whom he clearly hates, based on an episode earlier this season. He has it out with his dad, who calls his other son Lenny weak for committing suicide while Butcher was away in the military. With everyone else playing their parts, the healing Hughie gets stuck babysitting Lamplighter.

The two watch a lot of porn before Hughie swaps it over to the news to see that Starlight’s been caught as the mole in the Seven. Lamplighter reluctantly agrees to help Hughie save her from a supe-proof room in Vought Tower. Only that’s not what he does, instead he leads Hughie to the conference room before lighting himself on fire. This guy! Hughie then (honestly hilariously) saws off Lamplighters hand so he can get through security and rescue Annie himself. Annie manages fine on her own, but when she sees that Hughie’s rescued her mom and obviously came to save her it’s abundantly clear their feelings for each other.

Meanwhile, in the land of the Seven, Elena leaves Meave because she is haunted by the little girl left to die in that plane crash, the Deep and A-Train are at a “church” party where they see Eagle the Arrow get slandered by the leader, and Black Noir beats the crap out of Annie twice before Meave shoves an Almond Joy in his mouth (severe tree nut allergy – makes that one scene a few episodes back make so much more sense). Otherwise, team evil’ Stormfront and Homelander go to visit Ryan, where it’s clear they are trying to get him on their side. And it seems to succeed as we see the two supes blast off with him, leaving Rebecca probably hating herself for turning Butcher down.

Finally, the hearing has arrived, and it finally took Butcher’s threats to convince Dr. Vogelbaum to testify. Only, the hearing doesn’t even really start before people’s heads start exploding – including Vogelbaum’s! Everyone manages to get out fine, but it’s clear that no one, not even Stormfront, knows who’s behind this. Like I said, my money is on last week’s patient because she literally squeezed people into oblivion! But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Also, the season finale is next week! Man I hope we get some sweet answers!
