I told you all there was more to come! In order to make up for my abysmal viewings in September, I felt I needed to step up my game this first weekend to make it count. So with that, I started off with and oldie, but a goodie, Disturbia.
To be fair, this was my friend’s birthday pick, but I’m a long-time fan, so I had no problems popping this 2007 hit into my Blu-ray player. And yes, you read that right, 2007. Shia LaBeouf was barely in his 20s! The movie focuses on his character, Kale, and his trouble making actions after his father died in an horrific car accident that he was responsible for. After assaulting a teacher, Kale is on house arrest and becomes restless fast, so he resorts to spying on all his neighbors, from the destructive and horny middle schoolers across the street, to his old neighbor, to new family, including hot girl, Ashley.
After one night of spying, he suspects that his old neighbor, Mr. Turner, may be a serial killer, so he ends up recruiting Ashley and best friend, Ronnie. Many attempts to prove this to the police of this end up backfiring, and eventually Mr. Turner has had enough. There is some straight up crazy and nasty stuff that happens throughout, but what really makes this film a winner time and time again is the music! The suspenseful music is enough to make me jump out of my seat about half a dozen times throughout the film. If you haven’t seen this yet, add it to your list for the month, because it’s some of LaBeouf’s best work.
Today I finally got to watch a film I’ve been eagerly waiting to see: The Dead Don’t Die. Starring Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloe Sevigny, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, Caleb Landry Jones, and Danny Glover, this cast alone was enough to make it to the top of my list, and the fact that Jim Jarmusch directed it certainly helped. Never taking itself too seriously, there were plenty of moments sprinkled throughout of breaking the fourth wall, and that’s one of my favorite things! Anyways, the film centered on a sleepy town that starts getting infested with zombies after the world’s axis gets slightly off-balanced. Murray, Driver, and Sevigny make up the police department that gets to deal with this infestation.
You meet a lot of supporting cast that end up victims to the zombie army, but watching Tilda Swinton behead them with a samurai sword is as fun as it sounds! Adam Driver’s character really comes into his own with an arsenal of zombie knowledge and you really hope to see him and Murray make it to the end, but as his character says, “this isn’t going to end well.” And how does he know that? Because Jim gave him the script! This was my favorite scene of the film by a landslide. A slow burn, this movie is appropriately peppered with humor and gore, along with a sub-plot story telling from a gentleman in the woods who is referred to as Hobo Bob throughout the film. Give it a watch if you’re a Murray fan!
