TV Review: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Part 2

I’m ashamed it took me this long to watch it, but I finally “binge-watched” part two of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina! If you liked the first part, and didn’t get this confused with the 90’s sitcom, then you will like part two just as much! In terms of second season (technically), this was almost as strong as the first: no sophomore slump here.

Part one ended with Sabrina finally signing her name in the book of the beast, which means her locks are now platinum blond and she’s decided to attend the Academy of Unseen Arts full time. You know, to hone her witch skills, and nothing at all related to breaking up with Harvey….which is super sad by the way! Those two are endgame for me, so no offense to her new love interest this season, hottie Nicholas Scratch, but step aside!

Speaking of new love interests, Harvey and Roz get together, and I’m not loving it either. It just seems random. Madam Satan also gets her own love interest when her human vessel’s fiance, Adam, comes back to Greendale. She seemed to really enjoy her time with him until the Dark Lord took care of him, as he was distracting her from the mission.

That mission being, to get Sabrina to fulfill a prophecy that sees her as the Herald of Hell! We find out that everything Madam Satan as Mrs. Wardwell had been having Sabrina do was all part of the prophecy. After attempting and failing at ending the prophecy, the Dark Lord comes to earth in his angelic form (super hot it what that means) to get Sabrina to open the gates of Hell so they can rule mortals and witches together. “Why her” you’re asking? Well so is everyone else, and we get our answer: Satan is Sabrina’s real father! That was bananas to learn.

Ultimately, we learn that Nick was part of the plot to get Sabrina to embrace her dark side, and he ends up sacrificing himself in order to trap the Dark Lord and bring him back to Hell. Noble. The very last line of the season ensures that at least part of the next season will focus on saving Nick.

Other plot lines throughout part two included Susie becoming Theo and joining the basketball team! Roz’s cunning renders her blind for about an episode, but her visions were on point this season. Ambrose’s boyfriend Luke dies, he gets accused of killing the Anti-Pope but then subsequently pardoned by the Dark Lord, and by the end he and Prudence make it their mission to find and kill Father Blackwood. Zelda marries Father Blackwood only to find out he’s legitimately terrible, and Hilda finds out her boyfriend is a werewolf!

Stray Observations:
1.) The best episode of the season, hands down was “Dr. Cerberus’s House of Horror.” It had me feeling all sorts of uncomfortable, which was the point! So it’s a must watch for sure.
2.) Nick calling Harvey “Harry” on multiple occasions was wonderfully hilarious.
3.) Replacing phrases with Heaven instead of Hell was in full blast this season (i.e. – “What the Heaven?”).
4.) Salem is still being totally under-utilized and I want that to change!
