Wandee Goodday Series Review

Wow. I couldn’t tell you the last time I was this smitten with a Thai BL, or any BL for that matter! Wandee Goodday just checked all the boxes for me.

There have been some Thai BL series that are kind of a drag to get through twelve episodes of. Honestly, I could have done with more here! A part of me wishes I would have watched this week to week instead of the kind of disappointing series, We Are. If anything, I hope we get so many more projects out of newer GMMTV additions Great and Inn. I think it helps that these two actors are a bit older (we’re talking 30ish). They’ve also had a lot of acting experience at other agencies, so it just felt like their acting was so seamless. I also assume they were able to build a great chemistry off set based on the few interviews I’ve seen, because the chemistry in the series was through the roof!

Inn plays orthopedic doctor Wandee who is hyping himself up to tell fellow doctor, Ter, that he likes him after knowing each other for eight years. What could go wrong, right? Well not only does Ter reject him, he also tells him he’s “vanilla” and that he should drop out of this scholarship competition to study abroad because he wants it. The audacity of this handsome man! To squash the pain of rejection he goes out with his friend and fellow doctor Plakao to get plastered. With no luck at the club, he has Plakao drop him near his apartment where he probably does some of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen to try and seduce a patient he saw only three days ago.

Boxer Yoryak is, as the Youtubers say, the “greenest green flag that there is.” And I’d have to agree. He’s trying his best to become a world champion boxer like his father and older brother, but it’s clear he might also want to do something else with his life someday as he is also trying to finish up his degree. At the command of his older brother, he goes and gets his shoulder checked out by Dee, where the two don’t have the best first encounter. Now seeing Dee as the hot mess express, he takes pity on him and takes him home. By then, Dee has sobered up enough that he decides to challenge that “vanilla” label and have a one night stand with Yak.

If only it were that simple. Pretty soon it turns to friends with benefits, then they agree on a fake relationship to keep gossip about Dee at work at bay, and then they both catch real feelings. Surprised? No. This is maybe one of the oldest plots in the book, but they executed it so well. There was plenty of other small dramas to pad the story that were equally as enjoyable, but this was a cast with incredible chemistry, comedic chops, and finesse. I couldn’t watch this fast enough but now I am extremely sad that it’s over. I suppose now all I can do is try to find as many interviews and interactions as possible. Wish me luck!
