Week of Movies

I’ve got some vacation time at the moment, so that means I’m taking full advantage and watching as many movies as I want/can! With that being said, I watched a lot, so I’m going to keep it brief. Maybe something will be vague enough to intrigue you to watch!

Enduring Love – Way back in the early 2000s, before Daniel Craig was Bond and got new teeth, he was in this bizarre dramatic thriller. He, and a handful of others, are witness to a tragic hot air balloon accident. Afterwards, one of the others present at the event start stalking him, convinced that they love each other. This is unsettling in so many ways, but it almost destroys his life.

The Protégé – I skipped out on this action film when it came to theaters, but it ended up being fairly enjoyable. Maggie Q could probably give John Wick a run for his money, but it was her witty and intense interactions with fellow assassin played by Michael Keaton that were the highlights of this film. Definitely a fun action flick you should check out when you get a chance.

Single All the Way – My love for Ugly Betty played a hand in me watching another Christmas movie. This time around Michael Urie plays Peter, who takes home his best friend Nick to play his pretend boyfriend. No need though, because his mother’s set him up on a blind date with another extremely handsome guy. While I wanted to love this movie, the amount of interjecting Peter’s family did to try and get him and Nick together was enough to make me uncomfortable. And I think that’s really hard to do. Definitely going to re-watch Ugly Betty soon though because of this, so not a total loss!

Vacancy – My sister has been dying to have me watch this horror/thriller since it came out in 2007, and I’ve been expertly putting her off until now. This wasn’t a total waste of time, because the thrills were there for sure. I was more anxious about what stupid move this bickering couple was going to pull next. If you see a dude in a tape of your hotel room come out of the bathroom, maybe you shouldn’t stand by the bathroom! Some interesting lighting choices that I think were cleverly intentional. I’d say watch You’re Next or Ready or Not instead.

The Power of the Dog – This critically acclaimed film has been on my radar for quite some time, but I was hesitant only because of its Western setting. That really only made this movie better I think! With an outstanding cast, everyone shines throughout this dramatic thriller. Phil is a detestable human being who harasses his brother’s new wife and her son. Things take a turn at the end that will have you squirming a little bit. I honestly can’t wait to watch this one again! Be on the lookout for many awards.

Silent Night – I see Matthew Goode and Kiera Knightly leading this tragic comedy film and that’s enough to sell me. Perhaps I should have read brief logline about this film though because it took a really weird and very sharp turn from what I initially thought I’d be watching. An extended family is getting together to celebrate Christmas, but then lean that they are also celebrating their last day alive?! Evidently some catastrophic event is going to be sweeping by and killing everyone, so they’ve got their “exit pills” ready to go and take them out before they can suffer. Really interesting twist at the end that’s rather morbid in my opinion.

The Electrical Life of Louis Wain – I love a good movie about artists! Admittedly, Louis Wain was not an artist I was familiar with, but shame on me! He was best known for having a cat as a pet and then painting and drawing them. While the movie does depict his artwork, the film centers more on his life and the many tragedies that be felled him. Another great turn by Benedict Cumberbatch this week!
