Weekend Movie Review

Could I have managed to watch more films this weekend? Probably. Instead you’ll get two good ones and one just okay one for the week. Enjoy!

Venom: The Last Dance – It is honestly still mind blowing to me that Tom Hardy took part in not one, but three of these movies. While they’re not the worst out there, this man has been nominated for an Oscar for crying out loud! Anyway, he plays Eddie Brock, who at this moment is hiding out somewhere in Mexico until it’s obvious that the whole world is looking for him for a crime he didn’t commit. In his effort to get to New York he encounters some beastly looking things from another realm intent on killing him to get a codex that lives inside of him. That codex would release Knull, the creator of the symbiotes who wants nothing more than to destroy everything. These movies are always more goofy than I expect them to be and the introduction of several more “Venoms” does not help that at all. This is for sure the end of the trilogy, though I’m interested to see if this franchise has a future.

The Line – Well, I was supposed to see this film over a year ago as part of the virtual program at Tribeca, but it was apparently pulled by the filmmakers. Boo. They’re lucky I still wanted to see this anyways. While this movie just confirms all of the bad things that take place at fraternities, I still think it’s necessary to see, especially given that this particular story took place during the time I was finishing up college myself. I was never involved with Greek life, but I don’t doubt that hazing went on. In this film, you see that Tom, a “poor” frat bro, is fully brainwashed by the brotherhood of this fraternity. He’s seeking an affluent life with the connections he could make at this fraternity, but one bad move wrecks his entire life. It also proves that rich people can get out of just about anything and not see that they did anything all that wrong. I definitely say it’s worth a watch.

Don’t Move – I only just saw a trailer for this about a month prior and was mad at myself for not knowing about it sooner! A thriller with Finn Wittrock as a serial killer?! Sign me up! Iris sets out on an early morning hike to visit the site where her son accidently fell to his death. While she stands there contemplating taking her own life, charming Richard sidles up to her recounting his own personal tragedy. She decides to follow him back and that is maybe the worst mistake she could have made. Richard wants her dead, but Iris is a fighter, though the paralytic he injects her with makes that pretty difficult. This is a really fun and creative cat and mouse that everyone should give some time to in the near future.
