Weekend Movie Review

I have been seriously slacking since the New Year, but here is a quick and dirty review of what’s made it in so far.

A Mistake – I don’t know why, but I just love a good medical drama. Sure, this one might not have been based off of any one particular true story, but I’m sure what happened in this film actually has taken place to some degree in real life. It really shines a light on patient care and what could happen if the public plays a bigger role in outcomes.

Officer Black Belt – I thought this film would be a little comical given its name, but this was actually a more serious look at a young man getting involved in a heavy dose of reality and what it’s like to subdue the scum of the earth.

Emilia Perez – What. A. Piece. Of. Trash. Though I did find the high level plot of this film – a cartel boss faking his own death to become the woman he always knew he was – the songs woven throughout were maybe some of the worst I’ve ever heard. The fact that this is getting any awards love at all is a travesty.

The Last Showgirl – Pamela Anderson is the perfect person to play this aging Vegas showgirl and her crisis of what to do now that her long running show is ending. It takes a hard look at what careers in the entertainment industry do to personal relationships, as well as beauty standards in that same industry.

Wolf Man – I was really into this film until it got to the full wolf bits. Those parts were so silly at times they were almost laughable. With that being said, I did almost jump out of my seat twice, so do with that what you will.

One of Them Days – I found the trailer very funny every time I saw it, and the full film was no different. The journey these two broke roommates go on is the best of verbal and physical comedy I’ve seen in a while. Keke Palmer is unmatched!
