Weekly Drama Rewind

This week in the world’s of Animal Kingdom and Roswell, New Mexico, quite a lot went down! Both were action-packed in parts, and sometimes even jaw-dropping!

First up on Animal Kingdom, the Codys, sans Pope, are getting ready for the heist. What Craig was not ready for? Deran asking Renn to be involved. I actually really liked that Craig didn’t want both of them being in danger because of, you know, their son! She seemed very casual about the whole thing and in the end she liked it, so I imagine she’ll be helping them out more as the season goes on. For some reason, I think it won’t end well for one of them. Anyway, as usual, they’ve got everything for the job mapped out in excruciating detail, disguises included. What they weren’t expecting though were the somewhat frequent visits by the owner and henchman of the skate shop. Ren did her best to distract them, and it worked for a little bit, but eventually they realized they were being had.

It was a little too late though, as the guys got away with the safe. Was it messy as hell? You bet. In the end though, I don’t know that anything will come of it on the skater’s end. With Pamela, however, I don’t know how it’s going to go. When Deran met up with her and her son, it was without the safe and he wants to make a deal for all the stuff now. She “agreed” but I think the guys are really underestimating Pamela. Meanwhile, Pope has found himself in the middle of nowhere at some hippie commune, or “church” where he ends up doing acid and tripping out. He apologizes for killing “her” who I assume is Baz’s wife, Catherine. It seems like he might also be having flashbacks to his time as a child, where he and young Julia witness Jake get beat up pretty bad. At least in this flashback we see that Smurf really loves her children and will do anything to protect them.

Next up in Roswell, New Mexico, it’s another jam-packed hour where so much gets revealed! Maria knows she needs to speed up the process and figure out who’s getting murdered, so Isobel joins her on a drug-induced vision quest sort of adventure where they both have to face demons and reveal some secrets before they can figure out who’s getting killed. Meanwhile, Jones has Max still locked up and is essentially living his life as Max, but all he really does is drive to the middle of the desert and read all of the research Max has been doing. Michael finds Max and the two go to confront Jones, but Max allows him to show him the rest of the vision. It’s unclear what Max will do with this information, but as of right now it still seems like Jones is a good guy.

I imagine that will change based on the fact that we do find out who gets murdered by the end of the episode. But before we get there, Rosa (aka Rosalita) connects even more with Wyatt, who doesn’t seem all that pissed when he learns that Rosa is the one responsible for his sister’s death. In fact, it inspires him to leave Roswell to find himself. That’s probably a good idea, although I am really liking the scenes between these two! Liz knows she’s going to continue her research, but decides to quit her job. Her co-worker, Heath, doesn’t react too kindly to this revelation, which makes me really nervous for Liz’s safety! At the same time that scene is going on, however, it’s being cut with scenes of Kyle going to report an attack made by the chief of police’s’ son. He’s intercepted by him and a shoving match gets Kyle pierced by some metal rod! Max shows up, but it’s unclear if it’s too late, even without Maria and Isobel’s warning. Poor Kyle! He just wants to know what to do with his life and the message from his father that Michael helps him decode earlier in the episode should have proved to be all the foreshadowing we needed. Don’t let one of the good ones go!

Again, Animal Kingdom proves to be playing the long, meticulous game apparently and I hope it pays off in the end. I sort of think the show could benefit from a major character death this season, especially since there is only one more for the books. Who knows. But if that doesn’t happen, I’d at least like the Pamela Johnson story line to pick up more – and soon! On the opposite end, now I can’t wait to see what follows for the rest of Roswell, New Mexico, especially since we found out who got “murdered” so early! I use murder in quotes because I refuse to believe that Kyle is dead. He’s been one of the more interesting characters to follow around so far this season. Rosa, too! Liz’s’ story so far has been boring, and I don’t know what’s next for Maria now that she’s solved her mysterious vision. We shall see!
